Vashisht Hot Water Springs History

The village of Vashisht is very significant in Hindu culture. It was home to a sage named Vashisht, who was one of the seven wise men known as saptarishis. Sage Vashisht was the teacher of Rama and Laxman. It is said that Sage Vashisht tried to end his life in the nearby river after his children were killed. However, he was saved by river Bipasha and given a new life. He then moved to the village of Vashisht and lived there.

The river, which was once called Bipasha, is now known as the Beas River. The Vashisht Temple is more than 4000 years old and was rebuilt in 1992. Inside the temple, there is a black stone image of the Rishi wearing a dhoti. The Vashist temple is adorned with exquisite wood carvings.
