Hampi – a place as unique as its name, is a bag full of rich Indian history. Temples, significant architectural structures, lakes and rivers; you name it and Hampi has it. A region known for its rocks and ruins; Hampi was the capital of the very famous Vijaynagara empire of south India. A brown landscape with rusty terrain- Hampi is the perfect weekend getaway from Bangalore. It is a town known for its temples, a flea market full of hippie styled products and its sunsets! A UNSECO heritage site, Hampi was known for the diamonds that were sold on its streets. Million boulders, lush palms and the Tungabhadra river add different layers to its undulating beauty. A story at every corner, Hampi is a historical site with present day features that add a cherry on top of the cake. So, for all the history lovers out there: how long are you going to wait to tick Hampi off your bucket list? Itinerary

Day 0
Depart from Bangalore by 9 PM, Overnight Journey to Hampi

We start our trip by driving from Bangalore at around 9:00 P.M.

The 342 km journey takes about 7-8 hours to complete.

Day 1
Reach Hampi - Check in to the campsite - Hampi Exploration - Anegundi Fort - UNESCO World Heritage Site

New day, new place! We reach Hampi in the morning and check into our campsite.

We rest for a while, have breakfast and leave for today’s explorations.

We start our day by visiting the Anegundi fort. Dotted with a Durga temple and tombs on the entrance, Anegundi is a place where the elephants of the Vijaynagara empire used to take bath.

From the fort, we head towards the river to experience floating above the waters on a circular shaped boat.

The UNESCO world heritage site of Hampi is famous for its coracle rides i.e. walnut shaped boats on the waters of the River Tungabhadra.

We stop for lunch at a local café and head to the sunset point during the evening.

After witnessing the sky getting painted with innumerable hues, we head back to the campsite.

Enjoy dinner by the bonfire before sleeping in.

Day 2
Hampi Heritage Walk - Virupaksha Temple - Hampi Bazaar - Vijaya Vittala Temple - Lotus Mahal - Depart for Bangalore

On the second day, we explore places that are known to be the epitome of Hampi’s historical legacies.

Post breakfast, we check out of our campsite and head out to the prestigious Hampi Heritage Walk.

Our first stop on the walk is the Virupaksha temple. An architecturally renowned temple, Virupaksha temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It started off as a little shrine and later developed into a full-blown temple, becoming an important pilgrim site for many.

We take a break and have lunch at a local café before visiting the flea market.

The flea market, also known as the Hampi bazaar, is a set-up of historic market stalls full of ornaments and fabrics.

After shopping, we head to the very famous Vijaya Vittala temple which is known for its Stone Chariot. The temple is also known for its musical pillars and indomitable stone architecture. Built in the 15th century, it is dedicated to an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Both the temples are built in Dravidian style of architecture.

To end the chapter of Hampi, we head towards the Lotus Mahal. A look alike structure of a lotus flower, Lotus Mahal is one of the few structures left undamaged by the invaders. It is a part of the Zenana enclosure, where the royal family resided.

We later catch a bus back to Bangalore and reach home with amazing memories and stories

entrenched with the natural beauty of Hampi and the enriching history of an empire.

Day 3
Reach back home with amazing trip memories

Jaisalmer Trip 18-Dec Wanderon After a fabulous first experience with WanderOn at Spiti, I went on another expedition and this time it was deserts at Jaisalmer. Commute, stay and travel was very well organized. ACCOMMODATION Desert Stay: We were put up at Country Side Resorts at Sam Dunes and the tent stay was a memorable experience. The room was tidy, bed was comfortable and the washroom was clean and almost as big as the room (I ain't complaining ) Indian food prepared in local style was served. Food was decent, though it won't satisfy your taste buds if you are looking for delicious Rajasthani cuisine. However, Pakoda and garam Chai served on a chilly night was a winner! P.s. carry some food if you are picky. There aren't many options around. City Stay: Hotel Bansuri was located in city center and was a comfortable place to stay. Experience Part of the Itinerary ️ Sand dunes, dune bashing, camel ride ️Cultural shows and bonfire ️Ghost Town - Kuldhara ️ Patriotic trip to Longewala War Memorial ️ Rooftop restaurant - Cafe Kaku ️ Palaces Beyond Itinerary Experiencing desert on a pitch dark night Dancing our hearts out on the DJ night Star-gazing and watching a shooting star Soulful musical nights by Captain Shivam Intriguing Story-telling session by Captain Shourya Colorful culture, shopping and food of Rajasthan Bird's-eye view of the Jaisalmer fort Incredible pictures to flood your Instagram (you should check mine, to see what I'm talking about - second_favorite_f_word) Going that extra mile to make your journey memorable Amazing camaraderie with all the team captains - Shourya, Shivam, Nidhi & Aditya Suggestions Loved every bit of the trip but I would have enjoyed it better if it was atleast a day longer coz I couldn't cover some of the places Tanot Mata Temple (@Shourya, you knew this was coming ) Khaba Fort Bada Bagh/ Vyas Chhatri Gadisar Lake Some more palaces & museums - Salim ki Haveli, Nathmal ki Haveli, etc. All said and done, I truly believe Wanderon goes that extra mile to make your trip special and it's their Human Touch that's making all the difference! Special thanks to Shourya and Shivam for everything ️ WanderOn, thanks to you, I'm hooked to travel for life!

Me and my friends have travelled with wanderon to different places several times as solo and in groups and Everytime the execution of itinerary was perfect. I think that's the speciality of them that they maintain quality of experience. good stay options, comfortable travel, nice people in the group etc. Recently travelled to Jaisalmer on new year with Abhishek, Aditya and Nidhi as group captains and how amazingly they managed everything from arrangements to group engagement. Wonderful. Kudos team. 6 🌟 to the team.

New Year Trip - Jaisalmer A big step taken this year to go for a solo trip for the first time. I had this fear of what will happen if I go solo, will the people around be good or not, I might get bored all the time and the list goes on and on (till the very last minute before the buses left). But busting all the fears and myths this was bu far the best trip I have ever been too (never enjoyed this much on any trip). I must say the itineraries and packages offered by WanderOn are one of the best when compared to the ones offered by the direct competitors. Managing a group of 80 people is never an easy task when it comes to traveling. You need to get everyone on-board and ready always to meet all the timelines and hats off to all the Team Captains who worked hard for this successful trip. And this is for all the people travelling in my bus "You guys were really to be with, let's be in touch always and plan more and more trips together - love you guys" Glitches are always there when you organise something and if it is somewhere outside your hometown then everything is not always in your hands. So I would choose not to highlight those minor minor things because in the end what matters is what is your takeaway from the trip and there is nothing more beautiful than the memories/bonds/stories that are created in last few days. Thank You - Nidhi for coordinating everything from Jaisalmer and making sure that we get a smooth check-in as we reach the tents, Sonal and Amit for keeping the bus journey really fun and special thanks to Amit for all those pictures and videos we shot at multiple places, Shourya for handling all the stuff and making sure that if anything goes off track you have the solution ready for it, and lastly Afreen for bringing such a positive vibe through the journey and handling some really tough people. Looking forward for another trip with you guys. PS: isse pdh kr pighle nhi, sakhti bnaye rkhe ;p

I have been on 2 trips (Tirthan valley & Jaisalmer) with WanderOn & the best thing about WanderOn is that they make the travellers to interact with each other by doing some crazy activities. I have never seen any other travel community do the same. Team captains incredibly did their job. I would like to appreciate captain “Kumar Abhishek” (Jaisalmer 27dec-31 dec 2019) one of our team captain. He handled the things very well with a smile on his face. Never seen a captain like him 👏 .
