If you've been looking for a weekend trek that actually delivers, the Kareri Lake Trek is exactly that. Not too long, not too tough, but the kind of trip that genuinely surprises you at every turn.
You’ll leave Delhi at night, reach Dharamshala by morning, and honestly by the time you've had breakfast and your boots are on, the city already feels like a different life. The trail runs right alongside the Nyund River the whole way up to the base camp, which sounds like a small detail but it's actually what makes the first day so good.
Camp at Kareri Base Camp is a whole different experience. Dome tents, a proper bonfire, the Dhauladhar peaks turning pink at sunset, it's the kind of evening where nobody's really on their phone and conversations just happen naturally.
The climb to Kareri Lake takes you above the treeline completely, and suddenly it's just you, the snow-capped Dhauladhar range in every direction, and this incredibly still glacial lake sitting at nearly 3,000 metres. It's cold, it's quiet, and it's genuinely one of the prettiest things you'll see on a weekend trek from Delhi.
McLeodGanj gives you a slow pace with iconic highlights like Bhagsunag Temple and Bhagsu Waterfall. Don’t miss the momos, Tibetan chai, and a few hours of wandering before the road back. This 3 days Kareri Lake trek package has a funny way of feeling like you were gone for two weeks.

Itinerary

Day 0

Delhi To Dharamshala | Overnight Journey

Arrive at the designated pick-up point in Delhi by evening and meet the Trip Captain and the squad.

Complete your boarding formalities and settle into your seats.

Kickstart the overnight journey toward the mountains as the city lights fade and gear up for a weekend of pure alpine bliss.

Day 1

Arrival In McLeodganj | Full-Day Sightseeing & Evening At Leisure

We’ll reach McLeodganj in the crisp morning hours.

Check into your hotel, freshen up and enjoy a hearty breakfast.

Later, step out to explore McLeod Ganj, starting with Bhagsunag Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Then, walk up to Bhagsu Waterfall, popular for its chill vibe, natural rock pools, and the small cafés nearby with great views.

After sightseeing, spend your evening at leisure exploring the local markets or trying out some Tibetan food like momos or thukpa.

Later, return to the hotel for an overnight stay in McLeod Ganj.

Day 2

Trek To Kareri Base Camp & Campstay

Post-breakfast, check out of the hotel and gear up for trek day.

Lace up your boots for a 9 km trek to the Kareri Base Camp (2,450 m).

This is a moderate ascent that winds alongside the gushing Nyund River, taking roughly 5-6 hours to complete.

We’ll reach the campsite by evening, just in time to witness the Dhauladhar range glow under the setting sun.

Settle into your dome camps and rest for the day.

Have a hot dinner around a crackling bonfire under a blanket of stars.

Day 3

Kareri Lake Expedition | Evening Departure

Start your day with an early breakfast and embark on a thrilling trek toward the legendary Kareri Lake (2,934 m).

As you climb higher, the treeline thins, revealing the massive, snow-capped Dhauladhar peaks in all their glory.

Reach the glacial lake and spend your time soaking in the silence.

Later, return to the campsite and begin your descent towards Nyolli Bridge.

Once you reach, board your vehicle for a drive towards Dharamshala.

On the way, you can take a short stop near Kareri Village to freshen up and relax after the trek before continuing further.

By evening, reach Dharamshala and board the traveler for the overnight journey back to Delhi.

As your journey comes to an end, carry back memories of peaceful mountains.

Day 4

Reach back to Delhi by morning.

NOTE: Numerous factors such as weather, road conditions, the physical ability of participants etc. May cause itinerary change. We reserve the rights to change any schedule in the interest of safety, comfort and general wellbeing.

NOTE: The age limit of our group departures is 18 to 40 years due to the power packed itineraries that we provide to our travelers. We can customize trips for travelers beyond the mentioned age bracket.

NOTE: Please carry your own basic toiletries and personal hygiene essentials for the Kareri Lake trek. Kindly note that only dry pit toilets are available at the campsite. This is because the entire trek route and camping area fall under a Reserved Forest zone, where permanent washroom structures and water-based sanitation facilities are not permitted. We request all travelers to be mindful and cooperate in maintaining the ecological balance of the region.

Entire travel as per the itinerary (From Delhi to Dharamshala & Dharamshalal to Delhi it will be in Semi-sleeper Volvo & for the internal transfer it will be in Sumo/Tempo)

1 night hotel stay in Mcleodganj & 1 night stay in dome camps at Kareri base camp

A total of 4 meals included - Breakfast on Day 1 + Breakfast & Dinner on Day 2 + 1 Breakfast on Day 3.
