9 - Day Leh Ladakh Family Tour with Umling La Experience

We will now start our drive towards Kargil, passing through the scenic town of Sonamarg, often called the ‘Meadow of Gold’.

As we ascend, we’ll cross the Zoji La Pass (3,528m), where the lush greenery gives way to Ladakh’s rugged terrain.

Further on, we stop at Drass, known as the second coldest inhabited place in the world, where the kids can experience a true change in landscape.

Then, visit the Kargil War Memorial, a place of pride and reflection where the whole family can learn about the bravery of our Indian soldiers.

Our journey continues through breathtaking views until we reach Kargil.

Upon arrival, check in to the hotel, enjoy a hearty dinner, and rest up for the next day’s adventure.

We begin our journey by crossing two scenic high passes—Namika La (3,700m) and Fotu La (4,108m)—offering fantastic mountain views perfect for quick photo stops.

Further, we drive through Lamayuru, a picturesque village known for its moon-like landscape and one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries.

Then, we head towards the Sangam Point, where the Indus and Zanskar Rivers meet, a natural marvel that both kids and adults will enjoy.

Just ahead, we’ll experience the optical illusion of Magnetic Hill, where your car seems to roll uphill on its own—always a fun surprise for families.

A short drive from here takes us to the Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, where you can stop for a quiet moment and even enjoy some prasad.

Upon reaching Leh, our team will assist you with check-in, and you can relax at your stay.

Now, we ascend to the legendary Khardung La Pass (5,359m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world—a moment to remember together.

As we descend into Nubra Valley, the scenery changes dramatically, revealing wide landscapes and hidden beauty.

Further, we visit the Diskit Monastery, where the towering Maitreya Buddha statue offers a peaceful view over the valley.

Then, continue to the Hunder Sand Dunes, where the kids (and adults!) can enjoy a double-humped Bactrian camel ride or even an ATV ride (optional).

Upon arrival at your camp or hotel, enjoy some relaxed time under the open sky before dinner.

Begin the day with breakfast surrounded by the cool, dry desert of Nubra Valley.

We then drive along the Shyok River, passing through Agam and other small villages, each offering glimpses of Ladakh’s untouched beauty.

As we approach Pangong Lake, the shimmering blue waters gradually appear, creating excitement all around.

Further, walk along the lake’s shore, relax with your family, and take photos at the famous 3 Idiots movie spot.

Then, check in to your lakeside camp, where you can enjoy a warm dinner while watching the changing colors of the lake as the sun sets.

We now begin our journey toward the remote and peaceful village of Hanle.

As we drive, we’ll pass through Chushul and make a stop at the Rezang La War Memorial, where you can share stories of heroism with your kids.

Further, we cross the scenic Loma Bridge and follow the route alongside the Indus River, soaking in the quiet landscapes.

Upon reaching Hanle, check in to a cozy homestay, offering a chance to experience simple Ladakhi hospitality.

Enjoy a delicious homemade dinner with your hosts and relax with your family.

We will now drive toward Umling La (5,798m), proudly known as the highest motorable road in the world—higher than even the Everest Base Camp!

As we ascend, we’ll pass Photi La (5,524m) and drive through remote and rugged terrain, where every turn offers dramatic views.

Upon reaching Umling La, take time to soak in the views, click family pictures, and celebrate this milestone together.

Then, we begin our return journey, this time crossing Nurbu La (5,282m) on the way back to Hanle.

Once we’re back at the homestay, relax and enjoy a comforting dinner after a thrilling and memorable day.

After breakfast, we begin our drive back to Leh, tracing the scenic route along the Indus River.

On the way, we make a brief stop at Chumathang, known for its natural hot springs, where you can dip your hands in warm healing water—something the kids will surely find fun!

Further, enjoy the peaceful drive as we pass through remote villages and open landscapes.

We’ll stop for lunch on the way (at a local eatery or packed), before continuing towards Leh.

Upon reaching, our team will assist with check-in at the hotel so your family can relax.

Spend your last evening in Ladakh visiting the local market, where you can shop for souvenirs like prayer flags, woollens, or handmade crafts.

Enjoy a hearty dinner together as you reflect on all the wonderful memories.
