Zanskar Valley Group Trip: 6 Days of Raw Himalayan Adventure

After an early breakfast, check out of the hotel and gear up for a long but spectacular drive towards Padum (approx. 10-12 hrs.), the heart of Zanskar Valley.

You will drive through the Atal Tunnel, enter the Lahaul Valley via Keylong, and cross the mighty Shinku La Pass (16,580 ft).

En route, enjoy the dramatic shift in scenery from the lush greenery of Lahaul to the rugged, moon-like landscapes of Zanskar.

Stop for meals at local dhabas along the way (at your own cost).

We will pass through Darcha and Purne (depending on road conditions) before finally reaching the town of Padum by evening.

Check into your hotel in Padum, and enjoy a warm dinner.

Overnight stay in Padum.

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and head out to explore the cultural and natural wonders around Padum.

Visit the Stongdey Monastery, the second largest in Zanskar, located on a rocky cliff providing panoramic views of the valley.

Next, witness the breathtaking Drang Drung Glacier, a massive river of ice that is one of the most accessible and stunning glaciers in the Himalayas.

Spend your afternoon exploring the local Padum market to see the traditional lifestyle of the Zanskari people.

You can spend your evening by the banks of the Lungnak River or photography as the sun sets over the peaks at your own pace.

Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Padum.

After an early breakfast, check out of the hotel and head to Purne following the turquoise Zanskar River.

From Punre, start a trek to Phugtal Monastery (1-1.5 hrs one way), built into a cliffside cave and remains one of the most remote and stunning locations in the world.

After the trek, head to the majestic Gonbo Rangjon, a massive, isolated limestone peak considered sacred by the locals.

We’ll make a few stops en route so you can capture the Kargyak village views and the massive stone prayer walls (Mani walls) that line the mountain trails.

Upon arrival, check into your campsite near the foot of the peak and enjoy a peaceful dinner under the stars.

Overnight stay at the campsite near Gonbo Rangjon.

Begin your day early with a tasty breakfast and then check out of the campsite.

Enjoy a drive back towards Manali via the Shinku La route, taking 7-8 hours.

Upon reaching Manali, freshen up at the hotel and relax for a bit.

Later, board your bus for an overnight journey back to Delhi.

Arrive in Delhi early in the morning (approx. 12-14 hours journey), marking the end of your incredible Himalayan expedition.

Depending on your onward plans, head to the airport or railway station for your journey back home.

Head home with incredible memories of the hidden kingdom of Zanskar and the serenity of monasteries.
