Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says these new trains and coaches will make train travel better across India. He further announced that for every 3 non-AC coaches, 2 will be manufactured and for every 3 AC coaches, 1 will be manufactured. A new program has started to make more general coaches available across India.
Railways has received Rs 2.52 lakh crore in the new budget. The government plans to spend Rs 4.6 lakh crore on new projects over the next 4-5 years. These include new rail lines, station upgrades, and 1,000 new flyovers and underpasses across India.
Coach Manufacturing Progress:
The Railways is making good progress with coach manufacturing. They plan to finish 1,400 general coaches by March 31 and aim to make 2,000 more coaches in 2025-26.
Going Green & Safe:
In a major move toward environmental sustainability, Indian Railways will be fully electric by this year’s end. The government has also increased safety spending from Rs 1.08 lakh crore to Rs 1.14 lakh crore, with plans to raise it further to Rs 1.16 lakh crore next year.
Major Achievement:
The Railways is set to reach a significant milestone by March 31 reaching the ability to carry 1.6 billion tonnes of cargo. This will make Indian Railways the second-largest cargo carrier in the world, just after China.
