Ahmedabad fog disrupts air traffic at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Friday, with thick blanket covering north and central India causing delays to 40 flights: 21 departures and 19 arrivals affected.
Ahmedabad flight delays today left hundreds of passengers frustrated as dense fog in north India affects flights across the country, creating a ripple effect that reached Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Despite clear skies in Ahmedabad, SVPI airport flight delays mounted throughout Friday as poor visibility at major hubs like Delhi and Hyderabad slowed down aircraft movements.
The disruption impacted 40 flights in total, with Ahmedabad airport domestic flight delays affecting 34 services connecting to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar.
International flights delayed Ahmedabad numbered six, including departures to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, plus arrivals from Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur.
Airport officials explained that once planes get delayed at fog-hit cities, the delays cascade through the entire network. "Aircraft operating on rotational schedules miss their slots, and this spills over to airports like ours, even when our weather is perfect," a source said.
IndiGo warned travellers about continued low visibility in Hyderabad and several Indian cities including Varanasi, Udaipur, Jammu, Visakhapatnam and Jaisalmer.
The airline advised passengers to check their flight status frequently and be prepared for possible cancellations.
SpiceJet also reported weather-related slowdowns in Udaipur, Patna, Guwahati and Varanasi, adding to Ahmedabad flight delays today.
