There are two time slots in Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal for
  • Lok Kala Museum – 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Puppet and Folk Dance – 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

History Of Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal

Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal Udaipur was established in 1952 by Shri Devi Lal Samar who was a Padama Shri awardee in the field of dance and music.The purpose of making Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal was to preserve, promote and revive the folk culture, literature, art and the local festivals of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Delving into the history of Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal reveals how Devi Lal Samar was preserving and propagating the local history of Rajasthan. 

Places To Visit Near Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal 

1. City Palace

The City Palace of Udaipur, built over a period of 400 years. Its architectural style is a blend of Medieval, Chinese and European style but its intricate balconies, tall cupolas, and fine carvings are what really brings out the majesty of Rajasthani design. 

There are numerous attractions in the City Palace like Mor Chowk, Badi Mahal, Zenana Mahal, Sheesh Mahal which displays a vast collection of artefacts, miniature paintings, traditional ornaments and weapons etc. The best time to visit the City Palace is during winter, especially between October to March.

2. Lake Pichola

 Lake Pichola was built in 1362 AD by Picchu Bajanara during the reign of Maharana Lakha. Lake Pichola is 4 km long and 3 km wide. There are four islands on the lake Jag Niwas, Jagmandir, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas.  Tourists can visit Jagmandir Island Palace which is near to Lake Pichola and take boat rides to explore the lake. You can also witness the stunning views of sunrise and sunset from Lake Pichola. 

3. Jagmandir

Jagmandir is located at the centre of Lake Pichola, a stunning island palace that is a magnificent symbol of Rajput architecture and history. The palace also has must-see locations like Gul Mahal, Zenana Mahal, Bada Pathoron ka Mahal etc.

Jagmandir is not only an architectural wonder but also a symbol of the hospitality and chivalry of the Mewar dynasty. Tourists can reach the Jagmandir by a boat from the City Palace or other docks on Lake Pichola and enjoy the panoramic views of the Aravalli hills and skyline of Udaipur. 

4. Sajjangarh Palace

Sajjangarh Palace also known as the Monsoon Palace is famous for its panoramic views of Udaipur and Fateh Sagar Lake. The palace was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1884. Sajjangarh Palace is a splendid example of Rajputana architecture characterised by its beautiful balconies, turrets and Jharokhas. 

The Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, which surrounds the Monsoon Palace and one of the wildlife sanctuaries in Rajasthan attracts nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts because of its diverse range of flora and fauna.

5. Saheliyon Ki Bari

Saheliyon Ki Bari is also known as the Garden of the Maiden, which is a lush green garden with lots of fountains, lotus pools and a marble pavilion is also a must visit place near to the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal. It was built by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies and their maids. The scenic views of this place are perfect for relaxation and photography which makes it one of the must places to visit near Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal.

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum has a vast collection of traditional jewellery, ornaments, costumes, puppets, miniature paintings, masks, terracotta sculptures and idols of regional deities. The Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum is not only a display of artefacts but also a centre of cultural education and workshops. Daily puppet live shows and folk dance performances are a highlight of the Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum which entertains the visitors and educates them about the traditions of Rajasthan.
