Explore Bhojpur Temple History

Bhojpur Temple is an ancient temple in Bhopal, India. Built in the 11th century by King Bhoja of the Paramara dynasty. The king was deeply influenced the Shavism. So, he wanted to build a grand temple for Lord Shiva. He started building it around 1010-1055 AD. The temple is famous for its huge Shiva lingam which is one of the biggest in the world. It stands about 18 feet tall and is made of a single piece of stone.

Bhojpur Temple history doesn’t end here. The temple is made of large stone blocks. Some people think it looks like a giant puzzle because of the way the stones fit together.

Even though King Bhoja wanted to build a big and beautiful temple, he couldn’t finish it. No one knows exactly why the temple was left unfinished. Some say that the king ran out of money, others think there might have been a war or other problems.

Even unfinished, Bhojpur Temple is still very impressive. People come from all over to see it. Visitors also enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The temple is on a hill, and from there, you can see the Betwa River and green fields all around.

No history lover can deny that exploring the temple’s architecture is one of the best things to do at Bhojpur temple. It’s architecture and unfinished design is what makes it even more fascinating. When you visit the temple, the first thing you notice is a giant entrance. The walls are very tall and made of big stones. As the temple was never finished, so it feels like you are looking at a work in progress.

Inside the temple, there is a huge Shiva lingam, which is a symbol of the Hindu god Shiva. The lingam is placed on a big platform, which is also very impressive. The temple’s walls have beautiful carvings of gods, goddesses, and flowers. These carvings are very detailed and look almost real.

The roof of the temple is open to the sky. This might seem strange, but it is because the temple was never finished. But this makes it unique and gives it a special charm

I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
