Bir Billing in Himachal Pradesh is excitedly buzzing as it hosts the Cross Country World Cup Paragliding International Championship, signalling the start of paragliding activities. Kishori Lal, the Chief Parliamentary Secretary, inaugurated the event, a collaboration between the Billing Paragliding Association and the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

The serene Bir Billing Valley has come alive with a week-long paragliding championship. The event was virtually inaugurated by RS Bali, the Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, from Shimla.

A total of 186 participants from 33 countries, including countries like Australia, the United States, France, and more, are taking part in this international event. Teams from the Indian Air Force, Navy, and Army are also participating, with dedicated teams on standby for emergencies.

RS Bali highlighted the state’s commitment to promoting adventure sports and hopes to host a Paragliding World Cup. In 2015, India’s first Paragliding World Cup was hosted at this location.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu envisions Kangra as the state’s premier tourist hub. Various projects are underway to make this vision a reality. Himachal Pradesh aims to host more events like this to boost tourism and hospitality, which monsoon-related challenges have impacted.

The Paragliding Championship will conclude on November 2, with CM Sukhu presiding over the closing ceremony.
