This ropeway, stretching over 5.5 km, is set to become India’s longest and promises to revolutionize travel between these two cities. With an investment of INR 300 crore, it’s expected to be operational by September 2026, drastically reducing the travel time to 15 minutes. Currently, the journey takes 1.5 to 3 hours, subject to traffic conditions, covering a distance of approximately 33 km.
What sets this project apart is that it introduces 10-seater cabins, a first in India, with fully enclosed, well-ventilated, and glazed cabins equipped with automatic doors. Initially, these cabins will accommodate up to 1300 passengers per hour in each direction. The ropeway will be an all-weather system, operational throughout the year, regardless of rain or snow.
The significance of this ropeway extends beyond convenience; it is poised to alleviate traffic congestion, especially during peak seasons. It’s a pioneering effort in India designed to serve both tourism and urban mobility between Dehradun and Mussoorie.
