Thailand Could Be the 1st Southeast Asia Disneyland
Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says Thailand could become the first Southeast Asian country to have a Disneyland.
The theme park would be located in Bangkok's Eastern Economic Corridor and serve as a year-round tourism magnet, drawing visitors while supporting the region's high-speed rail and airport development projects.
Major Sports Facilities Planned Alongside
The Thailand Disneyland project includes plans for world-class sports venues: an 80,000-seat football stadium, a 30,000-capacity indoor arena, and an Olympic-size swimming pool on approximately 1,500 rai of land.
However, officials note these sports facilities alone won't help boost Thailand Tourism.
Disneyland in Thailand Bangkok Park Size & Investment
Officials are considering three potential park sizes, ranging from 960 rai for a smaller venue to 3,000 rai for a large-scale park, totaling around 5,000 rai of development area.
Disney's strict policies mean no casinos can be built near the park, ruling out any casino-related entertainment within the Southeast Asia Disneyland.
Thailand Disneyland License Deal
The government plans to first invite Disney to invest directly in the project. If Disney declines, Thailand will consider purchasing a license to operate the theme park instead, ensuring the project moves forward regardless of Disney's level of involvement.
Still in Early Planning Stage
The Disneyland in Thailand Bangkok project remains in discussions between government officials and potential investors. No formal agreements have been finalized yet.
