The company has been working on this technology since 2015. They design cars that can both drive on roads and fly through the air. An Electric Flying Car Takes Flight In California: A black electric car first drove on a road in California. Then it lifted straight up into the air and flew right over another car. This was special because other flying cars needed a runway to take off or were tied down during tests. This is the first time a car drove normally and then took off straight up in a city.
The company took many safety steps as the electric flying car took flight in California. They closed the road and made sure no people were near where the car would fly. They also had safety workers and equipment ready just in case(the test went perfectly with no safety problems at all).
Alef is testing a prototype called the Model Zero. This test vehicle helps them develop their first car for consumers, the Model A. The Model A is a car that can both drive and fly. It can take off and land straight up and down, making it work well in cities. The car can drive up to 200 miles on a single charge and fly for 110 miles.
Alef Aeronautics Flying Car has special features to keep it stable on the road and in the air. For safety, it has multiple electric motors, backup systems, tools to spot obstacles, and even a parachute for the whole vehicle.
Many people have already reserved Alef's flying car. Reports say 3,300 customers have placed pre-orders for the Model A. Anyone who wants to buy this electric flying car can reserve one now at $300,000.
Alef has bigger plans for the future. They want to make a flying car called the Model Z by 2035.
The Model Z will be larger than the current model. It will seat four people and fly twice as far up to 200 miles. It will also drive much farther; 400 miles on a single charge.
