About Dal Lake

Dal Lake is the first thing that comes to one's mind when Srinagar is remembered. The second largest lake of Jammu and Kashmir has a covered area of 18 square kilometers. Locals call it the "Jewel of Srinagar" because of its pretty landscape and cultural significance.

Dal Lake is also one of the most unusual components of which is its floating garden, or the Rad, as they are referred to in Kashmiri. These consist of water flora floating on top and blooming with lotus flowers during the summer, decorating the lake again.

Houseboats are yet another popular aspect of Dal Lake. While common boats are homes, houseboats in Kashmir have dwellings, hotels, and even restaurants, where tourists get a chance to reside on the lake and experience Kashmiri hospitality at its best.
