The Gulmarg golf course, Kashmir has an interesting history dating back to 1890 when Colonel Neville Chamberlain built it as a 6-hole course in Gulmarg, which translates to ‘the Meadow of Flowers’.

In 1922, the golf course held its inaugural golf championship and later introduced the Nedou’s Cup in 1929. A few decades later, in 1970, Peter Thomson gave the course a makeover and turned it into a full 18-hole course.

The Gulmarg Golf Course underwent a redesign in 1970 and was transformed into an 18-hole layout by Peter Thomson. It was crafted in a links-style to blend with the natural environment and became more challenging due to the relocation of the greens.

The Gulmarg Golf Course was a regular host of the Northern India Cup until 1989 when it moved to Delhi. In 2011, it received another redesign by Ranjit Nanda, a golf architect from Delhi. From December to March, the golf course serves as a winter sports hub for skiing and snowboarding.
