The India metro network marks a milestone in urban transportation. President Murmu announced that India now has the world third largest metro train network, covering more than 1,000 km. She was speaking to Parliament at the start of the Budget session, while highlighting new metro projects in several cities Delhi, Pune, Thane, and Bengaluru. She also mentioned the new Namo Bharat Rapid Rail that runs between Ahmedabad and Bhuj. According to her, these transport projects are helping build better and more developed Indian cities.

The President stressed that to achieve India’s goal of becoming a developed nation (‘Viksit Bharat’), it’s important to prepare Indian cities for the future.

The President said the government is working on two main things:

  1. First, they’re updating and improving facilities in cities to make them more modern and use less energy.
  2. Second, they’re also making plans to build new cities.

Highlighting India third largest metro network, Murmu said “Today, I am extremely pleased to share that India’s metro network has crossed the milestone of 1,000 kilometres. India has now become the third-largest country in the world in terms of the metro network,”.

The President shared some updates about Delhi’s public transport that work has just started on a new metro line from Rithala to Narela and Kundli. She said that Delhi’s metro system has grown a lot since 2014; back then it was under 200 km, but now it’s more than twice that size.

She also mentioned that the government is building 15 ropeway projects across India. These ropeways will help people travel more easily and also boost tourism in cities.

The President announced that the government will add 52,000 electric buses across India. These buses will offer comfortable and pollution-free travel in cities. This project will cost around Rs 8,000 crore, and will also create many new jobs.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
