From Ms. Vy’s Kitchen: The Morning Glory Story

In 2006, a woman with vision and big dreams decided to shape the Hoi An city’s modern food scene. Ms. Vy, a local chef, had a dream to share the taste of authentic Vietnamese home-cooked food with the world.

With her passion, she opened small eateries like The Little Mermaid and White Lantern. These restaurants in Vietnam boosted her confidence and taught her some biggest lessons for her business. Later, she created a place where visitors could taste not just the food of Vietnam, but its soul.

In the year of 2006, she finally opened her dream project and named it the Morning Glory Restaurant, which is a space where every meal tells different stories. She captures “what we eat, how we eat, and when we eat”. But this is just the start of her dreams.

After the success of this restaurant, she later opened other successful projects like Cargo Club, Ms. Vy’s Market, and White Marble Wine Bar. Each space reflects Ms. Vy’s unwavering dedication to preserving the flavours and rituals of Vietnamese cuisine, ensuring that every dish carries a piece of Hoi An’s heart.

Why the Name ‘Morning Glory’?

Morning Glory is not just a name, but holds a story in it. Locally known as rau muống, it is a green vegetable found in nearly every Vietnamese kitchen. The Chef Ms. Vy didn’t keep this name just because it is a plant name, but it also symbolises resilience, nourishment, and identity.

This plant grows fast and strong even in the harshest conditions, which she wanted to reflect in the name. Much like the Vietnamese people themselves, it thrives with quiet strength. It is, in many ways, the second most important food in Vietnam after rice, especially in rural households.

By naming her restaurant Morning Glory, Ms. Vy gave honour to the Vietnamese diet in which this plant is the main ingredient. With every meal, she serves the soul of the Vietnamese food, which makes it one of the best restaurants in Hoi An.
