Mumbai’s Western Railway is preparing to launch its first air-conditioned local train on December 25, 2024. The Mumbai new AC local trains have arrived at the Kandivli yard and are currently undergoing final inspections and testing before entering passenger service.

Mumbai’s Western Railway To Add 10-12 More AC Trips

The Western Railway now operates 8 AC train rakes, with 7 already in active service. Additionally, it is set to expand its air-conditioned local train services —– potentially adding 10 to 12 more AC trips to its schedule. The new AC train Mumbai, manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, aims to cater to commuters seeking a more comfortable travel experience.

Currently, approximately 124,000 passengers, that is about 4% of the 31 lakh daily commuters opt for AC local trains. Since the first AC local train was introduced on Christmas Day in 2017, these premium services have gained significant popularity. The upcoming additions are expected to be a game-changer for Mumbai’s commuters, offering more options for those who prefer cooler and more comfortable travel.
