The Pahalgam attack impact on travel has sent shockwaves through India’s tourism industry. After the tragic April 22, 2025, shooting in Baisaran Valley, many travellers are re-considering their plans to visit Kashmir and neighbouring regions. This article breaks down the key effects, from booking cancellations to policy changes, and explains what you need to know before planning your next trip.

How The Pahalgam Attack Impact On Travel Has Spread?

The immediate fallout of the Pahalgam attack impact on travel was a wave of cancellations across tour operators in Jammu & Kashmir. Social media posts and news reports sparked confusion, causing some visitors to believe the entire region was unsafe. This sudden concern has worsened the Kashmir tourism impact, with hotels in Srinagar reporting a nearly 60% drop in inquiries over the past week.

Many foreign governments issued “do not travel” advisories covering all of Jammu & Kashmir, inadvertently lumping Ladakh into the warning zone. As a result, even tourists bound for Leh by air hesitated to book, fearing they might be rerouted or delayed.

Leh Ladakh Tourism After Pahalgam Attack

Local tour operators in Leh describe a sharp decline in road-trip bookings: nearly 90% of overland group tours via Srinagar have been cancelled. That said, Ladakh remains peaceful and well outside active conflict zones, and flights into Leh have seen only minor drops, around 10–15% cancellations.

Efforts are underway to reverse the Kashmir tourism impact spillover. The Ladakh administration is running social media campaigns and working with embassies to clarify that Ladakh is a separate Union Territory and continues to welcome travellers safely.

Flight Disruptions: Pakistan Airspace Closure For India

The Pakistan airspace closure for India has compounded travel headaches. In retaliation for India’s diplomatic measures after the attack, Pakistan closed its skies to Indian carriers. Airlines must now reroute flights over the Arabian Sea and Gulf, adding 30–60 minutes to each westbound journey.

Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu has convened emergency meetings to assess how a prolonged Pakistan airspace closure for India might affect fares and scheduling. Passengers should expect occasional technical stops in the Middle East or Europe on routes that were once nonstop.

Amarnath Yatra 2025 Updates

Now the real question is whether the Amarnath Yatra will take place or not? Pilgrims planning the Amarnath Yatra will find reassurance in the latest Amarnath Yatra 2025 updates.

Registration began on April 15 at 533 bank branches nationwide, and security has been doubled along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.

Officials confirm that the Yatra scheduled from July 3 to August 9 will proceed as planned. Enhanced medical camps, tourist liaison officers, and real-time alert systems are among the new measures designed to keep pilgrims safe.

India Suspends Pakistan Visas

In a strong diplomatic response, India Suspends Pakistan Visas for most categories. All existing tourist, business, and student visas were revoked or set to expire between April 26 and April 29.

The decision India Suspends Pakistan Visas underscores New Delhi’s commitment to tightening security and sends a clear message about cross-border cooperation in the wake of terror threats.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
