Under the new passport fee structure in India, a standard 36-page passport for an adult now costs ₹2,500 under normal processing and ₹5,000 if you go the tatkal route. Minors get a lower rate, at ₹1,750 normal and ₹4,250 tatkal for a fresh 36-page booklet.
Lost or damaged passports cost more to replace than a straightforward renewal, since that category carries the highest fees under this passport application fee 2026 update.
Children up to 8 years and senior citizens above 60 get some relief. They're eligible for a 10% discount, but only on fresh applications. Renewals and replacements don't qualify for this discount.
The passport validity hasn't changed: 10 years for adults, and 5 years or until age 18 for minors.
You can pay through the Passport Seva portal or at a counter, and the online passport application fee matches the Passport Seva Kendra fee structure exactly, so there's no price difference either way. Keep your payment receipt once payment is done, since it's non-refundable after submission.
