About Sangaygang View Point

The Sangaygang View Point as the name suggests is a viewpoint which gives you a panoramic view of Thimphu city, located at an elevation of 2685 meters above sea level and is usually called BBS Tower or just Sangaygang by the locals. What makes this view point in Bhutan interesting is because there is a mini gym right at the beginning of the climb to this view point.

During the evening hours this spot becomes one of the best spots for watching sunset in Bhutan, which is also considered as one of the best things to do in Bhutan. How To Reach Sangaygang View Point Bhutan

There are multiple ways when you think of how to reach Sangaygang View Point in Thimphu, here are the different means to reach this attraction in Bhutan:

By Air:

Paro International Airport, one of the only international airports in Bhutan is the closest airport to Thimphu, about 50 km away, which is approximately a 1.5 hour drive.

From the airport, you can hire a taxi or a private vehicle to reach Thimphu. Sangaygang View Point is approximately a 15-20 minute drive from the city center of Thimphu.

By Road:

You can either drive or hire a taxi to reach the viewpoint. The road is well-paved, and the drive is scenic. The view point is about 7 km from the city center, and it takes roughly 15-20 minutes by car.

By Trekking:

For adventure lovers, travelers can hike up to Sangaygang View Point. There are several walking trails that lead to the point, starting from different parts of the city. This hike can take about 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace.

Wangditse Dzong- A Must Visit At Sangaygang View Point

If you continue the trail at Sangaygang View Point Bhutan, you would be able to see Wangditse Dzong, which is one of the oldest temples in Bhutan. The fort which was restored in 2020, although this attraction in Bhutan is referred to as lhakhang which in Bhutanese means temple but at times it is also referred to as dzong which means fortress, because of it’s fortress like appearance.
