Arjun Gufa History

Arjun Gufa is one of the offbeat places in Manali and is associated with the legendary figure Arjun, who was one of the Pandava Brothers. According to a Hindu Legend, Arjun meditated at Arjun Gufa for years to attain the Pashupata Astra. The Astra was a powerful and destructive weapon that was never supposed to be used by less significant warriors. Lord Shiva was pleased with Arjun’s devotion and dedication and blessed him with the Pashupata Astra. This weapon was possessed only by Arjun and no other warrior on earth.

There is a lake named Kunt Bhayo Lake and a temple named Kunti Mata Temple about 2 km away from the cave. The temple and the lake have been named after Devi Kunti, the mother of the three elder Pandava brothers.
