California Los Angeles Wildfires Kill 24. Experts Warn About Further Spread

California Los Angeles Wildfires continue to devastate communities across the region. Huge wildfires near Los Angeles have killed at least 24 people. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom says these fires might be the worst natural disaster ever in US history. The California wildfires have also destroyed many thousands of homes. There is progress in firefighting during the weekend, but weather experts say stronger winds are coming this week, which could make things harder.

1. Two wildfires have been burning near Los Angeles for six days now. The death toll has risen to 24 as of Sunday. Eight people died in the Palisades Fire area, while 16 people died in the Eaton Fire area.

2. Rory Sykes, who was a child actor from Australia and starred in the 1990s British TV show “Kiddy Kapers,” died in the Los Angeles wildfires.

3. The Palisades Fire has spread to 23,600 acres. The Eaton Fire covers 14,000 acres and is 15% under control. People spotted a fire tornado as flames spread through California’s San Fernando Valley.

4. The fires have damaged or destroyed over 12,000 buildings. More than 100,000 people had to leave their homes. The total damage and money lost could be between $135 billion and $150 billion.

5. Famous actors like Anthony Hopkins, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, and Billy Crystal have lost their homes in the fires(which look like a scene from a disaster movie).

6. The weather gave firefighters some relief this weekend when the strong Santa Ana winds, which were as powerful as a hurricane earlier in the week, finally slowed down.

7. Officials warned that winds will get strong again from Sunday night to Wednesday, reaching speeds of 96 km per hour.

8. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, who belongs to President Biden’s Democratic Party, promised to rebuild the city. He said a team is already planning for “L.A. 2.0.”

9. Donald Trump, who will be the next US President, blamed California officials for not handling the situation well. He said this is one of the worst disasters in US history and questioned why they can’t control the California wildfires.

10. Officials from federal and local agencies are working together to find out what started these fires.
