Kashmir Snowfall: Travel Advisory Issued In Gulmarg

The Gulmarg-Tangmarg route, known for its breathtaking views, can turn dangerous due to snowfall in Gulmarg. Authorities are urging travellers to be extra cautious highlighting the challenges of navigating icy, snow-covered roads. 

Winter Travel Advisory For Gulmarg: Key Guidelines 

Vehicle Regulations:

• Only 4 x 4 vehicles and those with anti-skid chains are permitted on the route.
• Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) with up to 10 passengers are allowed to maintain traffic flow.

Anti-Skid Chain Installation & Vendor Management:

• Registered vendors can install anti-skid chains at a fixed rate of INR 600 per pair.
• Vendors must operate exclusively in designated parking zones.
• Coat and boot sellers are prohibited from setting up roadside stalls to prevent traffic.

Parking And Emergency Preparedness

• Tour operators and private vehicle owners must use designated parking facilities in Tangmarg.
• This ensures clear access for emergency vehicles and snow clearance teams. 

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) emphasised that travellers, local residents, and service providers follow these guidelines to ensure safety during the challenging snowfall in Gulmarg.

• Prepare their vehicles with the necessary safety equipment
• Stay informed about weather conditions
• Follow all travel regulations
