Prince Jagat Singh requested his Father, Maharana Sangram Singh II, that he wanted to live in Jagmandir with his wives but his father denied Prince Jagat Singh because at that time Purdah system was prevalent and Maharana Sangram Singh didn’t want to embarrass his daughter in laws with his frequent visit here. So he gave permission to his son to build Jag Niwas which is known as Lake Palace. 

In the 19th century, the palace was converted into a luxury hotel by Maharana Fetah Singh. Today Lake Palace is a world-renowned hotel managed by Taj Group. The Taj Lake Palace gained massive popularity in the world because of James Bond’s movies “Octopussy” and “The Fall”.
