Kaza: 62 km (2 hours by road).

Manali: Approximately 200 km (10-12 hours, depending on road conditions).

Shimla: Approximately 445 km (15-17 hours by road).

Best Time to Visit Lhalung Village

As the weather will be pleasant and you will have enough opportunities to get out and explore whatever you want.

The roads leading to Lalung village, often blocked by snow in the winter months, are open, allowing travelers to fully explore the village and its surroundings. If you’re a fan of festivals in Spiti Valley, visiting during the summer months also gives you the chance to experience the local cultural events, including the colorful celebrations at the ancient Lhalung Monastery.

How to Reach Lhalung in Spiti Valley

Plan your visit to the Lalung Village in Spiti, through Kaza or Tabo! Here is how you can reach the village without any challenges through two types of routes, if you are still thinking Where is Lhalung village located?

  • Via Shimla

Start your trip to Spiti from the Shimla route and travel via Narkanda which goes through Rampur – Pooh – Nako – Tabo. But, this route will take around 430 Kilometers, which basically means two days! Although you need to squeeze in as many days exploring the Kinnaur village as you can – because it is definitely worth it!

It is the route that many people take because of the ease! So, you can decide whether you want to opt for the Shimla or Manali route.

  • Via Manali

The other option to reach here is through the Manali route where you pass by these major stop points – Rohtang, Kunzum Pass, Losar, and Kaza.

This route is very short and covers a distance of 230 Kilometers from Manali. You can complete this route within 11 hours of driving time, but have a lot of things to explore from in the journey.

Also, the good news is, with the opening of Atal Tunnel from 202, you can skip the Manali to Rohtang Pass Route and save 2-3 hours of driving time.

How to Reach Lalung Village By Public Transport?

If you are coming from public transport, take the bus which comes daily from Kaza to Lalung Village. Starting from the Kaza Bus stand at 5.15 Pm and reach in about an hour to 90 minutes and stays there for the night. Then, again starts at 7:30 Am and arrives at Kaza by 9 PM.

You can even come from a taxi here! But, it will cost you more, taking around Rs 4000- Rs 5000 per day! So, make sure you know the whole itinerary for the Lalung Village and have a clear understanding of reaching here.

Things to Do in Lhalung Village

As it is a remote village in Spiti Valley, there is nothing much to do here! But, definitely, it has some things to do in Lhalung village Spiti which will have you a good part explored of this paradise.

1. Lhalung Monastery and the Undying Tree

You all would have heard about the Lhalung Monastery in Spiti Valley! It is one of the best tourist attractions that people come exploring out!

It is widely said that in order to please the Gods, the villagers wanted to build a monastery and they requested Rinchen Zangpo to select a holy site. Then he handed one of the villagers a few twigs of Sea Buckthorn tree and told them to plant those at different sites of the village.

But, only one of those twigs bore a new leafy and that place was considered to be holy. The next day, Lhalung monastery was found in the same location and the villagers believe the tree is blessed and it never dies.

2. Trekking and Long walks

You can go on short treks in Spiti, while also knowing more about the place and exploring short distances which can lead to the most beautiful views like never before.
