With the Pune-Mumbai expressway tourist rush, traffic police jump into action as massive traffic hits Khandala Ghat. A 10-12 km backup developed on the Mumbai-Pune route starting Wednesday, with tourist vehicles stuck for hours. Holiday Rush Creates Chaos As Travellers Head To Tourist Spots

Travellers heading to popular holiday destinations like Lonavala, Khandala, and Mahabaleshwar for Christmas and New Year celebrations caused severe traffic congestion on both the Expressway and the old Pune-Mumbai Highway. Adding to the problem there were frequent vehicle breakdowns along the route.

Frustrated commuters took to social media to share their experiences, with many reporting delays of more than two hours. A high number of private vehicles heading to tourist spots in Kolhapur, Panchgani, and the Konkan region contributed to the massive backup.

Police urged travellers to carefully plan their journeys over the next 10 days to avoid getting caught in traffic. They also stressed the importance of following traffic rules to prevent further congestion.
