Tirta Gangga Temple History

The Gangga Water Palace was built by the former king Anak Agung in 1946. But in 1979, the temple was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Agung

Later in the year 1979, the palace was reconstructed and converted into a water garden and named Tirta Gangga.

Tirta means “Holy” and Gangga “ is the hold river Ganges in India” so the temple is dedicated to the mother Ganga in India.

The best time to visit Bali temple Tirta Gangga is in the early morning hours if you wish to avoid the crowds and queues. You can have the place to yourself to explore the temple premises and learn about the history of the palace. 

Photographers too who are seeking to capture some of the stunning pictures should visit the temple in the early hours to avoid any kind of rush. 

How to reach Tirta Gangga Temple

Tirta Gangga Water Palace is situated in Ababi Village. It takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. 

Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Indonesia is 2 hours drive from Ubud and 2 and a half from Canggua. 

Tourists can opt for a private taxi from the hotel to the water palace and alternatively, they can choose to have a scooter ride.
