How to reach Kanamo Trek in Spiti Valley

Kanamo Peak Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Spiti Valley. It is located in the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, which is about 200 km from Manali and 16 km from Kaza. There are several ways to reach Kanamo Trek. 

By Air: The nearest airport is the Bhuntar Airport, located around 240 km from Kaza. Flights are available from major cities in India like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh. 

From Bhuntar, one can hire a taxi or take a bus to Kaza, which is the base camp for the Kanamo Trek.

By Road: Kaza is well-connected by road to major cities in India. One can take a bus or hire a taxi from Delhi or Chandigarh to reach Kaza. 

The road from Manali to Kaza is a scenic one, passing through high mountain passes and quaint villages. However, the road is only open for a few months a year due to heavy snowfall.

By Train: The nearest railway station is the Joginder Nagar Railway Station, which is about 350 km from Kaza. From the railway station, one can hire a taxi or take a bus to Kaza.

Once you reach Kaza, you need to reach the village of Kibber, which is the starting point of the Kanamo Trek. Kibber is located around 18 km from Kaza and can be reached by hiring a taxi or taking a local bus. From Kibber, the trek to Kanamo Base Camp starts.

It is recommended to reach Kaza a day or two before the trek to adapt to the high altitude. The high altitude can cause altitude sickness, so it is advisable to take necessary precautions and carry medication if required.

  6. Return to Kibber: After reaching the summit and spending some time at the top, descend to the base camp. From there, trek back to Kibber and then return to Kaza.
  7. Departure: After completing the trek, you can depart from Kaza by road to your next destination.
