Ever chanced upon a place so lovely that it seems almost unreal? That's Yusmarg for you - one of those secret places to see in Kashmir that locals attempt to keep to
themselves.
Only a bumpy 50km ride from Srinagar, this meadow retreat lies peacefully in the Pir Panjal range, free from touristy crowds. The name is derived from a local legend that Jesus (Yus) had roamed these peaceful fields.
What’s special? Imagine rolling green grasslands stretching into the distance, tall pines offering wonderful picnic spots, and the Doodh Ganga river chattering away everywhere. On lucky days, you may get to spot Himalayan animals emerging from between the trees.
Seeking off-the-tourist-track things to do in Kashmir? Ride a village horse across a meadow, trek to still-reflection Nilnag Lake, or simply bask in the grass and watch shapes emerge over snowy ridges.

The lesser-explored natural region of Yusmarg Kashmir has stunning scenery. The site named Yusmarg bears the name "Meadow of Jesus," which indicates Jesus used to visit this place. There is no evidence to prove this myth, but it gives a magical ambiance at Yusmarg. Yusmarg Kashmir serves as a perfect resort for tourists who want seclusion through its virgin natural Kashmiri sites.
Yusmarg offers tourists a real chance to see unspoiled natural landscapes. Endless green grass fields stretch until they vanish in the horizon and pine and wildflower aromas cover the whole landscape. When the wild horses graze food on the fields, tourists can be awed by the mystical atmosphere that the sounds of birds create.
