How to Travel from Ahmedabad to Rajasthan

Ahmedabad to Rajasthan by Road

If you are wondering how to travel to Rajasthan from Ahmedabad, the most flexible and popular way is by road. Highways are good, distances to the southern Rajasthan cities are short, and no advance booking is needed if you are driving your own vehicle.
Main Roads:
  • NH48 via Palanpur and Himmatnagar to Udaipur route: The most used route for Ahmedabad to Udaipur trip. 260 km, 4-4.5 hours. The road passes through the Aravalli foothills in the final stretch and is very well maintained. Mount Abu branches off this route near Abu Road, approximately 220 km from Ahmedabad.
  • NH27 via Radhanpur to Jodhpur: For Jodhpur, the northern highway route covers approximately 440 km in 7 hours. This route also serves as the road connection to Jaipur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer.
An Ahmedabad to Rajasthan road trip is particularly popular for Udaipur, Nathdwara (a major Krishna pilgrimage site 40 km from Udaipur and highly frequented by Ahmedabad travelers), and Mount Abu. Both are manageable as weekend drives without an early start.
Transport Options:
  • Own car: The most convenient choice for the Ahmedabad-Udaipur and Ahmedabad-Mount Abu corridor. The toll on the Ahmedabad-Udaipur route is approx. Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 one way.
  • Outstation Cab: One-way Cab fare to Udaipur starts from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 4,000. Local taxi drivers are often willing to haggle on return journeys.
  • Self-drive rental: Available from Ahmedabad at Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 3,000 per day for a hatchback or sedan.
A FASTag with sufficient balance covers the toll plazas on both major routes.

Ahmedabad to Rajasthan by Bus

The bus network between Ahmedabad and Rajasthan is one of the strongest on this list compared to other origin cities. GSRTC (Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation) and RSRTC (Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation) operates services across the states, and the private operators fill the gaps.
  • Ahmedabad to Udaipur: GSRTC provides regular and AC services. Travel time: 5-6 hours. The fares range from Rs 200 to Rs 600. Private operators also provide private overnight coaches and Volvo services.
  • Ahmedabad to Jodhpur: There are several operators that ply this overnight route in 8 to 10 hours. The cost for private AC sleeper buses ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
  • Ahmedabad to Ajmer & Pushkar: Regular buses are available, and the journey takes about 7 to 8 hours. Both RSRTC and private operators run this corridor.
  • Ahmedabad to Jaipur: Buses & overnight Volvos are available on this route. The trip takes 9 to 11 hours. The fare ranges from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1,200.
If you are travelling to Udaipur and Mount Abu, then a bus is a good option for budget travelers. Day buses are available for Udaipur and allow you to reach the city by early afternoon.

  • Ahmedabad to Udaipur: There are many trains daily that cover the distance in 4 to 5 hours. Ahmedabad-Udaipur Express is one of the most convenient. Sleeper fares are between Rs. 100 and Rs. 200, and 3AC is between Rs. 400 and Rs. 600.
  • Ahmedabad to Jodhpur: A 7-8 hr complete journey with many trains a day. Sleeper fares are between Rs. 200 and Rs. 400, and 3AC fares are between Rs. 600 and Rs. 900.

  • Ahmedabad to Jaipur: Several trains daily, including the Ahmedabad-Jaipur Express, 8–10 hours. Rs 250-Rs 450 in Sleeper, Rs 800-Rs 1200 in 3AC.
  • Ahmedabad to Jaisalmer: Best done via Jodhpur connection. The total journey takes 12 to 14 hours.

Planning a Rajasthan Trip from Ahmedabad: What to Know

Most guides on how to reach Rajasthan from Ahmedabad cover the same generic options. These are the Ahmedabad-specific details that actually change the planning.
  • Udaipur does not need a flight: From Ahmedabad, Udaipur is a 4-hour drive or a 4- to 5-hour train ride. Flying adds airport transfers and check-in time on both ends for almost no gain. A road or train is the best option for getting to Udaipur from Ahmedabad.
  • Nathdwara is worth adding to any Udaipur trip: Nathdwara, home to the Shrinathji temple and a major pilgrimage site for Gujarati travelers, is 40 km from Udaipur and falls directly on the Ahmedabad-Udaipur highway. Most Ahmedabad travellers include it as a brief stop either way.
  • Festival season creates booking spikes in both states: Navratri is celebrated intensely in both Gujarat and Rajasthan, and outbound travel from Ahmedabad during this window is high. Diwali and the Pushkar Mela in October-November are the two peak periods for advance booking on Ahmedabad-Rajasthan routes.
  • Bus and train availability is high but book ahead in peak season: The Ahmedabad-Rajasthan rail and bus corridor is active daily. Outside October to March, last-minute tickets are usually available. Within peak season, booking 2 to 3 weeks ahead is advisable.
  • Mount Abu is closer than most people realise: Many Ahmedabad travellers do not count Mount Abu as a standalone Rajasthan trip because it feels like a natural day or weekend extension. At 220 km, it is Rajasthan's only hill station and a very different experience from the rest of the state.
