Jeju Airplane crash in South Korea. In a shocking incident, a Boeing 737 -800 flew from Bangkok to South Korea. When the plane tried to land on Sunday, it crashed. There were 181 people on the plane. Sadly, 179 people died. Only two people survived and were saved from the crashed plane. After the aircraft crash, rescue operations were in place at Muan Airport on December 30.

South Korea Plane Crash Tragedy

The Jeju Air flight took off from Bangkok at 9:00 AM. When it first tried to land at Muan Airport, the control tower warned the pilot about birds that might hit the plane. Soon after, the pilot called for emergency help and tried to land on its belly because its wheels weren’t down.
  • The crash killed 179 people—–175 passengers and 4 crew members.
  • Only 2 crew members survived.
  • The passengers were between 3 and 78 years old.
  • Most of them were from Korea, except for 2 people from Thailand.

Investigation Begins Into Deadly Aircraft Crash In South Korea

Officials are looking into two main possible causes: birds hitting the plane and bad weather. An aviation expert, Philip Butterworth-Hayes, said several things must have gone wrong to cause such a terrible accident. He also mentioned that planes usually have very strong safety systems. Officials said that the runway wasn’t too short—- it’s 2,800 metres long and other similar planes landed there safely.

The team has found both black boxes (the devices that record flight data and pilot voices), which will help them understand what happened.

Political Response To Air Disaster

The crash happened during a difficult time in South Korean politics. Former President Yoon Suk Yeol had declared martial law on December 3 and was later formally discharged. The new Acting President Choi Sang-mok, called an urgent meeting with government officials and went to see the crash site himself.

Crash Victims Identified: Grieving Families To Say Goodbye

All 179 victims from the crash have been identified, officials say, but most families are still waiting to receive their loved ones’ remains. Only 11 bodies have been released from the temporary mortuary so far.

Since Sunday, families have been waiting at Muan Airport. On Wednesday, they took turns visiting the crash site by bus to honour the dead. At the airport, people lined up at a memorial altar to pray and pay respects during New Year’s Day.

I did my first solo trip in India with WanderOn. Initially I was sceptical about their Meghalaya-Kaziranga trip as I didn't have any prior experience with them but the team assured me that it's going to be one of the best experiences of my life.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
