blog-images
The Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in Jodhpur was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh between the 19th and 20th century. It is an important landmark near Mehrangarh Fort. It is believed that the clock came from London, probably from the same company that made the famous London Clock Tower.

Over time, the area around Ghanta Ghar became very busy. Many shops opened, and a marketplace called Sardar Market was created. It was named after the Maharaja and became a great place for shopping.

Back then, you could buy things like spices, vegetables, clothes, and tools in the market. Today, the market is more modern and sells many more types of items.

Architecture Of Ghanta Ghar

blog-images
Ghanta Ghar was made entirely of sandstone, which matches the nearby Mehrangarh Fort. The tower has five levels, with a dome on top of the sixth level. The bottom level is wide and square-shaped, with balconies and decorative windows. Around this level is an eight-sided stone fence, which makes the tower a roundabout and easy to spot.

The first and second levels have fancy stone windows. The fourth level holds the clock. The fifth level is a small, decorative structure with arches and pillars, like a little pavilion.

In Ladakh, find the perfect blend of culture, adventure, and serenity. December last year I decided that my next trip would be Ladakh but didn’t know how to go about it. I knew I wanted to travel in a group, as I had prior experiences of traveling in a group but wanted an organiser I could trust. Ladakh isn’t like other destinations wherein you need some instructions due to the high altitudes.
