During Nyepi, Ngurah Rai International Airport closes, road traffic stops, shops remain shut, and people are expected to stay indoors. The Nyepi festival in Bali begins with celebrations the evening before the silent day. This is when you can see the ogoh-ogoh processions, with large effigies carried through local streets as part of the ceremonies leading into Nyepi.

In 2027, Nyepi falls on 8 March. The date changes every year and generally falls in March or April, so verify the date again before booking.

If you do not want Nyepi to affect your trip, avoid arriving, departing or planning major sightseeing on the day itself. If you want to experience it, be in Bali the evening before for the Ogoh-Ogoh Parade, then stay at your hotel for the following 24 hours.
