The Colombo Lotus Tower rises 350 metres beside Beira Lake and is known locally as Nelum Kuluna. It's South Asia's tallest self-supported structure and Sri Lanka's tallest skyscraper. Its upper section is shaped like a blooming lotus, and since opening to the public in September 2022, it's become one of Colombo's most recognisable modern landmarks.

The real draw is the view from the top. From the observation deck on the 29th floor, about 245 metres up, a full 360-degree sweep takes in Colombo's skyline, the working port, and the Indian Ocean stretching out beyond it. On a clear day, it's arguably the single best vantage point in the entire capital.

There's more to the tower than just the view, though. Pixel Bloom, an immersive digital-art space on the ground floor, turns the visit into something hands-on rather than a quick look-and-leave. Blue Orbit, South Asia's first revolving restaurant, lets you eat a full meal while the city slowly turns beneath you. Add in a handful of souvenir shops, a food court, a children's play area, and a set of luxury suites, and the tower holds enough to fill an afternoon on its own.

Most visits take 1 to 2 hours — easy enough to slot into a single stop — which is exactly why the tower fits so naturally into Sri Lanka trips that begin or end in Colombo.

Top Attractions Inside the Colombo Lotus Tower

Exploring the Lotus Tower is one of the best things to do in Colombo for travellers wanting a quick half-day visit. The tower mixes ticketed sightseeing with venues you book separately. The observation deck and Pixel Bloom are ticketed. Dining, suites, banquet halls and the casino are booked on their own, and the lit exterior is free to watch.

1. Observation Deck

Embedded media

The deck is a full-circle viewing floor at the top of the tower, reached by a high-speed lift. You can walk the whole 360 degrees, and panels with diagrams name each landmark and show which way to look.

On clear days the view takes in the Fort district, Pettah, the port, Beira Lake, the Indian Ocean and green suburbs inland, making it one of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka.

  • Where: the 29th floor, about 245 m up (sources quote 244 to 248 m)
  • Entry fee: foreign adults pay USD 20 (₹1,930) and children aged 3 to 10 pay USD 10 (₹965). Under-3s are free. Locals pay LKR 500 (₹145).
  • Timings: a 30-minute slot, within tower hours of roughly 9 AM to 10 PM on weekdays and 9 AM to 11 PM on weekends.
  • Time needed: 45 to 60 minutes in total, including entry and the lift.
  • Need to know: carry your passport and arrive 15 minutes early. The first lift of the day is the quietest.
  • Please note: one reviewer found no activities or services on the deck itself, so treat it as a viewing stop. School groups visit on some weekdays and can fill slots.

2. Pixel Bloom

Embedded media

Pixel Bloom Colombo is South Asia's first dedicated immersive digital-art space, created with Bling Productions and Eyeon. It has seven zones of projected, interactive displays with ambient sound, telling the story of the tower, Colombo and Sri Lankan culture. The programme changes seasonally, and a Vesak digital-art experience ran here in May 2025 with revolving digital art slides in one zone.

  • Where: the ground floor
  • Entry fee: included in the foreign combo at USD 20 (₹1,930) for adults and USD 10 (₹965) for children. Locals pay LKR 350 alone (₹100) or LKR 850 for the combo (₹245), and children pay LKR 200 (₹60) or LKR 400 for the combo (₹115).
  • Timings: the local slot is 15 minutes, and the foreign combo slot is 45 minutes including the deck.
  • Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Need to know: the official foreign ticket page lists the deck and the combo only, with no standalone Pixel Bloom ticket.
  • Please note: the space announces temporary closures on its social page, so check before a special-date visit.

3. Blue Orbit Revolving Restaurant

Embedded media

Blue Orbit by Citrus is Sri Lanka's first revolving restaurant, seating about 350 guests. The buffet wraps around the circular floor with a rotating daily menu across seven cuisines (Sri Lankan, Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern, Japanese, Chinese and Western). One source puts it at over 300 dishes. The inner ring revolves, while the outer ring stays fixed.

  • Where: near the top of the tower (the 27th floor), about 229 m up
  • Entry fee: the buffet is LKR 9,000 nett per adult (₹2,610) and LKR 4,500 for ages 6 to 12 (₹1,305). Under-6s eat free. An unlimited beer package at LKR 9,500 (₹2,755).
  • Timings: lunch from 11:30 AM to 3 PM and dinner from 6:30 PM to 11 PM, daily.
  • Time needed: 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Need to know: reserve through blueorbit.lk. Smart casual dress applies, so no athletic wear or beachwear.
  • Please note: A full turn may take 60-90 minutes. Ask for the inner ring, and pick lunch for daylight views or dinner for the city lights.

4. Rooftop Promenade

The Rooftop Promenade on the third floor of the Tower Base, offering wide views over the Colombo skyline. It gives a lower, closer view than the deck, with the lake and nearby streets in focus.

  • Where: the third floor, per the official site
  • Entry fee and timings: not published.
  • Please note: I couldn't confirm that it opens to standard-ticket visitors, so ask at the counter.

5. Food Court and Souvenir Shop

Embedded media

The ground floor has a food court for a quick bite before or after your slot. The souvenir shop sells locally made gifts and tower-themed keepsakes, which suits a last stop before leaving.

  • Where: the ground floor
  • Entry fee: none reported. Items and meals are priced individually.
  • Timings: not published, so assume tower hours.
  • Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Please note: the tower's terms say a ticket is needed to enter, though reviewers also mention ground-level photos from outside. Confirm what you can reach without one.

6. Lotus One Five Play Area

It’s a well-designed children's play area featuring a carousel, slides, a colorful maze, and a trampoline, which makes the tower visit easy to combine with young kids. Pixel Bloom is also popular with children of all ages.

  • Where: ground level, within the Tower Base section
  • Entry fee and timings: not published

7. Facade Lights and Fountains

Embedded media

About 21,280 pixel lights cover the exterior, and the colours change after dark. The tower stands out best from the lake side, where Beira Lake gives a clear foreground, and from Pettah Floating Market. Water fountains at the base add to the view.

  • Where: outside the tower, around Beira Lake and McCallum Road
  • Entry fee: free.
  • Timings: after dark.
  • Need to know: it's the budget option if you skip the deck.
  • Best for: photographers who want the lit tower rather than the view from it.

8. Moon Walk Banquet Hall

The Moon Walk Banquet Hall is a versatile event space built for weddings, galas, and other grand occasions. Its ceiling carries the same pink, lotus-inspired lighting design found through the tower's upper floors, giving the space a distinctive glow after dark.

  • Where: the 25th floor
  • Best for: weddings, galas, and special celebrations
  • Entry fee: not applicable — booked privately for events, not open to general visits

9. Cosmic Banquet Hall

Embedded media

Cosmic by Citrus is billed as South Asia's tallest banquet hall, with 360-degree views through unique pink-tinted glass that looks best by day. It hosts weddings, conferences and private parties, and the tower's kitchen can cater to more than 1,500 guests.

  • Where: 26th floor
  • Capacity: up to 350 guests
  • Best for: large-scale celebrations, cultural gatherings, milestone events
  • Entry fee: not applicable — booked privately for events, not open to general visits

10. Luxury Suites

The 28th floor pairs the tower's luxury suites with an exclusive sky lounge, combining overnight accommodation with panoramic cityscape views. It's a separate, standalone booking from the sightseeing tickets, built for travellers wanting to stay inside the tower itself rather than just visit it. It features six luxury suites with bespoke facilities and service, generally for VIP guests.

  • Where: 6th level or 28th floor, inside the Tower House section
  • Entry fee: room rates are not published
  • Need to know: enquire through the tower's official channels
  • Best for: a special-occasion stay

11. Majestic Pride Casino

Embedded media

Majestic Pride is a separate casino venue inside the tower, offering table games such as roulette, baccarat, blackjack and poker, along with live entertainment, DJ nights, food festivals and tournaments. It isn't part of the sightseeing tickets.

  • Where: on second floor, inside Tower Base
  • Entry fee and timings: not published here, so check with the venue
  • Please note: it is an adults-oriented venue, so confirm age limits, ID and dress rules with Majestic Pride before going.

Best Time of the Day for Visiting Colombo Lotus Tower

The smart choice for the Colombo Lotus Tower is a slot at about 5 to 6:30 PM. Sunset in Colombo falls around 6 PM, so one ticket covers daylight sightlines, golden hour and the city lights coming on.

  • Sunset slot (5 to 6:30 PM): the best value, because you see Colombo in both light and dark.
  • Weekday morning: the quietest option. Weekends draw many local families.
  • Night only: the city lights look striking, but you lose daylight detail.
  • Lotus Tower at night from outside: the lit facade is free to watch from viewpoints around Beira Lake, which suits tight budgets.
  • Rainy day: book Pixel Bloom for the combo's indoor time, and keep the deck for a clearer slot.

Colombo Lotus Tower: Is It Worth the Price?

Embedded media

Many visitors rate the view highly, while others find USD 20 steep next to the LKR 500 local price and say the facilities are basic. It's a reasonable snapshot of how Sri Lanka tourism balances ambition with inconsistency — a genuinely modern landmark that doesn't always back up its ticket price with matching polish.

Go if you:

  • Want a skyline overview on your first day or last day in Colombo.
  • Travel with kids who will enjoy Pixel Bloom.
  • Can book a clear-weather sunset slot.

Skip it if you:

  • Are on a tight budget or very short on time.
  • Already have views from Sigiriya or the hill country on your route.
  • Would be happy with the free outside view at night.

One reviewer-recommended free alternative is the observation deck at the Sambodhi Chaitiya stupa in the Fort area.

How to Reach Colombo Lotus Tower?

The Lotus Tower stands beside Beira Lake on the Colombo 10 and Fort side, about 2 km from Fort railway station.

  • From Fort station: a tuk-tuk or taxi takes 5 to 10 minutes and typically costs LKR 300 to 500 (about ₹85 to ₹145). Agree the fare before you start, or use the meter. Walking is free and takes 20 to 30 minutes, but railway lines interrupt the direct route.
  • Ride-hailing: PickMe and Uber work across Colombo and show the fare before you book. Ask for "Nelum Kuluna" or "Lotus Tower".
  • From the airport: about 30 to 35 km and roughly 40 to 60 minutes by road, depending on traffic.

Please Note: Book your slot online for a guaranteed place. The counter sells tickets too, but slots can sell out. Arrive at the gate 15 minutes early with your passport and your e-ticket, digital or printed.

How Does Colombo Lotus Tower Fit into Your Trip?

Embedded media

Most Sri Lanka itineraries revolve around Colombo as the bookend: the arrival or departure city, with the rest of the trip elsewhere. That makes the tower an easy half-day stop.

  • Arrival day: an evening slot suits a tired arrival, with a short hop from the airport.
  • Departure day: pair a late-afternoon slot with a sunset walk at Galle Face Green.
  • Nearby stops: Beira Lake, Gangaramaya Temple and the Fort district sit close by.
  • The sunset plan: if you book the tower for sunset, skip Galle Face the same evening and visit it the next morning.

For beaches after Colombo, the coast road runs south to Bentota in roughly two hours. If you’re planning a longer stretch to the south coast, check out WanderOn's Bentota tour packages for broader itineraries.
