The beach is the headline, but the best things to do in Batumi are spread between the seafront, the ridge above town, and the hills a short drive inland. 1. Walk the Batumi Boulevard end to end

The boulevard runs roughly seven kilometres along the seafront, and walking or cycling the full length is the first thing to do in the city, ideally in the last hour before sunset when the light comes off the water and the towers behind you start to light up. 2. Watch Ali and Nino move

5. Ride the Argo cable car up the ridge

The cable car climbs the ridge behind the city to a viewpoint that gives you the whole of Batumi at once, the towers, the port, the coastline curving south toward Turkey. There is a cafe and a small wine tasting at the top, and it is worth timing for late afternoon.

6. Stay out for the nightlife

Batumi is the entertainment capital of this side of Georgia, with the casinos, bars, and restaurants that keep the city awake long after the beaches empty.
