What confuses people is that the two scenes live about fifteen minutes apart. You can spend an early evening in a cellar bar on Erekle II Street tasting amber wine poured from a clay qvevri and still be standing in a queue at Bassiani by 1:30 AM. Tbilisi is small enough that a single night can hold both, which is exactly why it earned the reputation it has.

Three cities carry almost all of the country's nightlife, and they do completely different jobs. Tbilisi is the serious one, with an internationally respected club circuit and a bar scene that runs seven nights a week.
Batumi is the seasonal one, a Black Sea resort town that swells with casinos and open-air bars between June and September and goes quiet the rest of the year. Kakheti, the wine region two hours east, barely has nightlife in the club sense, but a long marani dinner there is the closest thing to a Georgian night out as locals understand it.

Nightlife in Georgia country looks very little like the package-holiday version of a night out, so it helps to set expectations before you land. There is no mega-club district, no beach party circuit outside Batumi, and no ladies-night economy. What exists instead is a dense, walkable capital with a handful of genuinely world-class electronic music venues, a huge number of small bars, and a national habit of treating a long dinner as an event in itself.
Which City for Which Kind of Night
Tbilisi gives you everything year-round, with the club season strongest from October to May. Batumi is worth a night only in high summer, and mainly for the seafront and the casinos. Kakheti is for the supra, the toasting and the chacha, not for a dance floor. Plan your evenings around that split and you will not waste a night in the wrong city.
Tbilisi Nightlife: How a Club Night Works, From Door to Sunrise
A club night here runs on a timetable that catches most first-timers out. Doors open around midnight, the floor is still half empty at 1 AM, the set everyone came for lands somewhere between 2 and 4, and the last people walk out in daylight. Turning up at 11 PM means standing in an empty room, so eat late and go later.
Entry is typically 30 to 60 GEL at the bigger venues, winter cloakroom use is compulsory and costs a lari or two, and cards work at the bar. The rooms themselves are bare concrete with almost no lighting and very serious sound systems. There is no table service and nobody performing hospitality at you, so treat the bar as the only point of contact all night.
Two things mainstream Georgia tourism coverage tends to skip. The strongest programming runs October to May, because a large part of the crowd moves to the Black Sea in high summer. And none of the serious venues are in the old town, so budget a taxi in each direction rather than assuming you can walk home.
Bassiani Tbilisi Entry: How the Door Actually Works
Bassiani sits in a disused Soviet swimming pool beneath the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena, and it is the venue most people have read about before they arrive. Venue names, opening nights, and door policies in Tbilisi shift often, and the details below were checked in September 2026, so travellers should confirm that a club is still open under the same name before building a night around it. Entry is not guaranteed, which is the part most guides leave out. Four things decide whether you get in.
- Face control: Door staff assess every group before letting anyone through, and their decision is final. Large all-male groups are refused routinely, as is anyone who looks like they are visiting as a novelty rather than for the music.
- Advance registration: Certain nights, including the Horoom parties, require signing up through the club's own channels before the event rather than paying at the door. Check the line-up and the entry conditions for your specific date, because they differ from week to week.
- Phones and photography: Staff place stickers over front and rear cameras at the entrance. Nothing is filmed or photographed inside, and ignoring that will get you removed.
- How to improve your odds: Arrive in a mixed group of two to four, sober enough to hold a normal conversation, dressed plainly, and able to name the artist playing. If you are turned away, leave without arguing. It happens to Tbilisi residents as often as it happens to visitors.

Beyond Bassiani: Khidi, Café Gallery, and Fabrika

- Khidi: Built into the space under the Vakhushti Bagrationi Bridge, Khidi programmes harder and later than Bassiani and sits in a similar entry band. The door is selective but noticeably less strict.
- Café Gallery: A small, house-leaning room on Rustaveli with a relaxed door and entry usually under 25 GEL. This venue is the one to start with if you have never done a Tbilisi club night before.
- Fabrika: A converted Soviet sewing factory in Chughureti, now a hostel with a large open courtyard ringed by bars and food counters. The courtyard is free to walk into, busy by 10 PM, and has no door policy at all.

Qvevri Wine Bars and the Slower Georgian Night
Georgia ferments wine in qvevri, egg-shaped clay vessels buried in the ground, and the practice is on UNESCO's intangible heritage list. Left on the skins, white grapes such as Rkatsiteli and Kisi turn amber and tannic, closer to a light red than anything you would call white wine. Ordering a glass of that in a cellar bar is a better introduction to the country than any museum.
Tbilisi Wine Bars Worth the Walk
The old town concentrates them, so a crawl is easy on foot. Vino Underground near Sioni was set up by natural winemakers and remains the most serious tasting room in the city. g.Vino on Erekle II Street is smaller and louder, good for a second stop. 8000 Vintages in Vera carries the widest list if you want to compare producers properly. A glass typically runs 10 to 20 GEL, staff will pour tastes before you commit, and most places stay open past midnight without any of the door drama.
Supra: Dinner That Turns Into the Night
A supra is a Georgian feast run by a tamada, the toastmaster, who sets the order of toasts and controls the pace of the table. Nobody drinks alone and nobody drinks between toasts. It can run four hours, the food keeps arriving after you are full, and the chacha usually appears late. This is the version of a night out that most Georgians would actually choose, and it is the one visitors remember years later.
Batumi Nightlife: Casinos, Seafront Bars, and a Short Season
Batumi is Georgia's Black Sea resort and its nightlife is entirely seasonal. Between June and September the boulevard is busy until 3 AM, the beach bars run open-air sets, and the casinos draw a steady weekend crowd from across the Turkish border, since gambling is legal here and restricted next door.

Batumi Nightlife in Season
Stick to the stretch between the Piazza and the seafront promenade for bars, and expect a holiday crowd rather than a music crowd. The casinos inside the big seafront hotels are the other draw, and they stay open around the clock. Outside summer, be honest with yourself: from November to April, Batumi nightlife is a handful of open bars and a lot of shuttered ones. Anyone travelling in winter should spend their evenings in Tbilisi instead.

Tbilisi Clubs Dress Code and Door Etiquette
There is no formal Tbilisi clubs dress code, but there is a clear unwritten one. Dark, plain and understated works. Loud logos, going-out shirts, shorts and sandals do not. Nobody is checking for designer labels, and turning up overdressed reads as badly as turning up in beachwear.
Keep your group small, keep your voice down in the queue, and carry your passport or a copy, because ID checks are routine.
Getting Home Safely
The Tbilisi metro stops running around midnight, so Bolt is what everyone uses after that. It is cheap, widely available and worth having installed before you land. Central Tbilisi is generally safe to walk through late, with low levels of violent crime by European standards, though the usual caution about unlit lanes in the old town applies.
One current note: Demonstrations have been a recurring feature on Rustaveli Avenue since late 2024, and they are peaceful but can close roads, so check local news before planning an evening around that stretch.
Fitting Nightlife Into a Georgia Trip
Nights are the easiest part of a Georgia itinerary to plan badly, because the club scene runs on two days of the week, and most sightseeing days start early. Follow the tips below for a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Be in Tbilisi on a Friday or Saturday: The major clubs programme almost entirely on those two nights. Midweek the city still has its bars, wine cellars and the Fabrika courtyard, but the floors people travel for are shut.
- Never schedule a club night before a mountain day: Kazbegi departures leave between 7 and 8 AM for a three-hour run up the Georgian Military Highway. Put the late night before a free Tbilisi day, or before a travel leg you can sleep through.
- Let Kakheti handle the other kind of evening: A supra in the wine region starts mid-afternoon and winds down by around 10 PM, so it costs you nothing the next morning. One club night and one supra covers both registers in a week.
