1. Gudauri Ski Resort and the Upper Mountain

The upper lifts push above 2,700 meters to terrain most day visitors never reach, with views across the Greater Caucasus stretching as far as Kazbegi on a clear January morning. Non-skiers can ride the chairlift to the top purely for the view before coming back down.

2. Ananuri Fortress

An hour below Gudauri on the Military Highway, Ananuri sits on the Zhinvali reservoir with two towers, a church, and a wall running down to the water. The colour of the lake in winter light is the reason most photographs of the drive up look the way they do. All our packages route past it on the transfer, and it is worth a thirty-minute stop.

3. Jvari Pass Viewpoint

The road crests at nearly 2,400 metres before dropping into the Gudauri plateau, and the viewpoint at the top gives you the full width of the Caucasus in both directions. On a clear day in February, this is the kind of view that people photograph and then put their phones away, because photographs don't do it justice.

4. Kazbegi (Stepantsminda)

A further hour past Gudauri on the Military Highway, Kazbegi sits below Mount Kazbek with the Gergeti Trinity Church on the ridge above the town. If your Gudauri trip runs to five or six days, a day trip to Kazbegi is the obvious extension and the one most people wish they had built in from the start.

5. Tbilisi

The capital is two hours down the Military Highway and the standard starting point for any Gudauri trip from India.
