Planning a Chandratal Lake stay is very different from booking a regular hotel in Spiti. There are no conventional hotels beside the lake, and camping directly on the lakeshore is not permitted. Instead, seasonal camps operate a few kilometres away from Chandratal, usually from mid-June to September or early October, depending onKunzum Pass, road access and weather conditions.
For travellers exploring the region throughSpiti Valley tour packages, Chandratal is usually planned as a one-night stop between Manali, Batal, Losar and Kaza. The stay options range from basic alpine tents to Swiss tents with attached washrooms, meals and limited power backup. Prices, facilities and even camp operators can change every season, so choosing a stay is less about finding the most luxurious camp and more about checking the right details: current road access, washroom type, meal inclusions, bedding, hot water and oxygen or first-aid support.
This guide explains the best Chandratal camps, current Chandratal camping prices, nearby alternatives in Batal and Losar, and what you should realistically expect before spending a night at more than 4,200 metres.

1. Samsong Chandratal Camps
Samsong camp Chandratal is one of the easiest camps to research properly because it publishes its own tariff and facilities rather than relying only on third-party listings.
Its current published tariff lists:
Swiss tent, double sharing: ₹2,250 per person or ₹4,500 for two
Triple sharing: ₹2,000 per person
Quad sharing: ₹1,800 per person
The MAP tariff includes breakfast, dinner and tea. Its website also lists double-layer waterproof Swiss tents, attached Western-style toilets in Swiss cottages, hot water on demand, warm quilts and blankets, buffet meals, power backup, first aid, oxygen cylinders and parking.
The camp states that it is about 1.5 km from Chandratal Lake and generally sets up from early June through October, subject to weather. That “subject to weather” line matters because no Chandratal operator can guarantee a fixed season independent of Kunzum Pass and local road conditions in Spiti Valley.
Best for: Travellers who want a proper bed, attached toilet and more predictable facilities.
Traveler’s note: Samsong also appears in the HP Forest Department's historical list of recognised Chandratal campsite operators, rather than appearing only in recent OTA search results
2. Jamaica Camp Chandratal
Jamaica camp Chandratal is another long-running name associated with the Chandratal camping zone.
For the current season, its official website advertises stays starting at ₹2,000 per person including meals. It also says 30 September is the last date of its campsite for the season, which is a useful example of why travellers should not assume every camp remains open into October.
The property advertises tent accommodation, dining and home-style meals, while Google currently shows a strong volume of guest feedback around food, service, location and the camping atmosphere.
Best for: Travellers looking for a social camp atmosphere and meals included without moving into the higher-priced Swiss-tent bracket.
Price: From approximately ₹2,000 per person with meals, based on the property's current published starting rate.
Practical note: Its marketing also mentions upgraded/heated stay types. At Chandratal's altitude, always ask exactly what “heating” means before booking rather than assuming hotel-style continuous room heating.
3. Parasol Camps, Chandratal
Parasol Camps, Chandra Talis one of the more established names around Chandratal and also appears in the HP Forest Department's historical campsite operator data.
A current 2026 OTA listing shows rates from around ₹4,900 per night, while long-running independent Spiti travel guidance places direct camp pricing historically around ₹1,500–₹2,500 per person including meals. The difference illustrates why Chandratal camping prices should always be reconfirmed directly rather than copied from a single website.
Traveller reports repeatedly mention:
Proper bedding and blankets
Hot water
Food and tea
Covered or clean washrooms
Basic electricity/power
Assistance when travellers struggle with the altitude
Those should still be confirmed for your particular tent category.
Best for: Travellers who value an established operator and want somewhat more organised camp facilities.
Indicative 2026 online rate: Around ₹4,900 per tent/night on the current OTA listing.
4. Kabila Nature Camp
Current listings also surface Kabila Nature Camp as one of the established seasonal properties in the Chandratal camping area. Kabila appears in the Forest Department's older operator records too, giving it a longer operating history than many temporary listings.
A current OTA listing shows approximately ₹3,185 discounted / ₹3,500 listed per night, with facilities such as power backup and basic in-tent conveniences listed by the platform.
Older first-hand video documentation of the camp is useful for setting expectations: electricity was generator-based and limited, mobile charging was not always available, and there was effectively no mobile network. Facilities can change, so verify the current setup before treating those details as guaranteed in 2026.
Best for: Travellers looking for a mid-range seasonal camp.
Indicative online price: Around ₹3,185–₹3,500 per night
5. Sakya Camp Chandratal
Sakya Camp Chandratal is useful for travellers who specifically want an attached washroom rather than a basic shared toilet setup.
The property describes two accommodation categories: Swiss tents and family Swiss tents, both with attached washrooms. Breakfast and dinner are included according to its accommodation listing. Other listed facilities include parking, 24-hour security, first aid, housekeeping and private bathrooms.
A current OTA search result lists rooms from around ₹2,046 per night, although seasonal availability can change quickly.
Recent Google data also places the property roughly an 8-minute drive from Chandratal and shows especially positive comments around bathrooms and hospitality.
Best for: Couples or families who consider a private bathroom essential.
Indicative 2026 online price: Around ₹2,046+ per night.
6. Moonlake Camps
Moonlake is another name that has been associated with Chandratal for several seasons and appears in historical Forest Department campsite records. hpforest.gov.in
A current OTA listing shows Moonlake Camps from around ₹4,650 per night, with bed and parking details listed. Vayable Trip
Separate 2026 camp reporting puts its normal per-person pricing closer to roughly ₹1,800–₹2,500, illustrating again that direct camp rates and OTA per-tent rates should not be compared without first checking occupancy and meal inclusions.
Best for: Travellers comparing established Swiss-tent-style options around the main camping zone.
Indicative rates: Roughly ₹1,800–₹2,500 pp direct-market range, or around ₹4,650 per tent on one current OTA listing
7. Tenzin Camps
Tenzin Camps is another seasonal option worth checking when the main properties are full.
Current OTA results show a rate of approximately ₹2,790 per night, with restaurant and parking facilities listed. Vayable Trip
Independent Spiti travel reporting also links the operation with the family behind Batal's well-known Chandra Dhaba, although this should be treated as background rather than a guarantee of the current camp setup. Discover with Dheeraj
Best for: Budget-conscious travellers comparing available camps after reaching the Spiti side.
Indicative 2026 online price: Approximately ₹2,790+ per night
Which Chandratal Camp Should You Choose?
Choose Samsong if an attached toilet, published tariff and oxygen/first-aid backup matter to you.
Check Sakya if you mainly want a private washroom and meal plan without immediately moving into the highest published price bracket.
Compare Jamaica if you want a lower per-person starting rate with meals and a more social camp environment.
Compare Parasol, Moonlake and Kabila if you want established seasonal operators but are comfortable confirming the exact 2026 tent category and rate directly.
For every property, ask for a photograph or video of the tent being sold to you that season. At Chandratal, “Swiss tent”, “deluxe camp” and “premium tent” are not standardised hotel categories.
Are There Any Hotels at Chandratal Lake?
No conventional hotel operates directly at Chandratal Lake.
If you need a proper room rather than a tent, the realistic alternative is to stay in Losar, visit Chandratal as a day excursion and then return to a lower, more settled village.
Hotels and Homestays in Losar Near Chandratal
The Nomad's Cottage is one of the more established conventional stay options in Losar, with a substantial body of guest reviews.
Ibex Home Stay, Losar is another well-reviewed homestay option for travellers who prefer a room to a high-altitude tent.
Gakyit Home Stay Lossar is listed as a village homestay and can work as another backup when camps are closing for the season.
What About Staying at Batal?
Batal is much more basic than Losar.
The best-known option is the roadside Chandra Dhaba, historically associated with Dorje and Hishe Chhering, often referred to by travellers as the “Chacha-Chachi” of Batal. Independent Spiti travel references describe extremely simple sleeping arrangements rather than anything resembling a hotel.
There is also a PWD rest-house option in the wider Batal area, but availability should be confirmed rather than relied upon as a walk-in hotel.
Chandratal Camping Price in 2026: What Should You Actually Budget?
Based on the operator tariffs and current listings checked on 29 September 2026, a realistic budget is:
₹1,500–₹2,500 per person: common organised camp range
₹2,000–₹3,000 per person: better Swiss tents or attached-bath options
₹4,000–₹5,000+ per tent: many double-occupancy OTA listings
₹5,000+ per tent: higher-demand dates or better-equipped categories
Do not compare ₹2,200 per person with ₹4,500 per tent for two as though they are different price bands. That is one of the biggest reasons Chandratal prices look inconsistent online.
For example, Samsong's published double-sharing rate is ₹2,250 per person, which becomes ₹4,500 for the tent for two.
What to Verify Before Booking Chandratal Camps
This section should stay in the page because it is stronger than just listing properties:
Ask whether the camp is physically set up yet. A road opening does not mean tents, kitchens and water lines are operational. Early June is particularly uncertain.
Ask whether the price is per person or per tent.
Confirm breakfast and dinner. At this altitude, leaving camp to look for another restaurant is not realistic.
Ask whether the toilet is attached, shared or a dry toilet.
Confirm hot water rather than assuming it.
Ask about oxygen and first aid. Samsong explicitly lists both, but do not assume every camp does.
Ask what supplies electricity. Generator or solar lighting often means limited hours rather than 24-hour power.
Save confirmation offline. Network reliability around the camping area is poor.
Reconfirm the Batal–Chandratal road before departure.
Do not book solely on an old camp name. Operators, tent inventory and setup can change between seasons.

I booked WanderOn’s 7D/8N Spiti Valley trip for my best friend’s 30th birthday because we wanted to celebrate such a milestone in a truly unforgettable way. After researching several travel companies, WanderOn stood out for its focus on safety, well-planned itineraries, and overall experience. Even then, I kept my expectations realistic because Spiti is a challenging destination with long road journeys and difficult terrain.
Looking back, this trip exceeded every expectation.
From the very beginning, our trip captains—Nishant, Aman, and tazdeek—made all the difference. They weren’t just trip leaders; they became our guides, mentors, brothers, and friends. They constantly looked out for everyone’s safety, helped us acclimatize to ex the altitude, shared local stories, explained the history and culture of every place we visited, and made sure every single traveler felt included.
As two girls traveling together, we were also a little unsure about what the group dynamic would be like. But we met some incredible people from across India, and by the end of the trip, it truly felt like a family. WanderOn doesn’t just take you to beautiful places—they help you experience them. Every stop had a story, every meal introduced us to the local culture, and every day felt thoughtfully curated.
A special mention to our drivers as well. Driving through Spiti’s roads is no easy task, but they were exceptionally skilled, calm, and professional throughout the journey, making us feel safe at every turn.
Reaching Chandratal Lake at nearly 15,000 feet was one of the most surreal moments of my life. After hours of driving through breathtaking landscapes, standing in front of that pristine lake felt like a reward in itself. It’s a memory I’ll carry forever.
The most heartwarming part, though, was my friend’s birthday celebration. Despite being in such a remote location and having an early morning ahead, the team arranged a cake, celebrated with us at midnight, and made her 30th birthday truly iconic. It wasn’t something they had to do—it was something they genuinely wanted to do, and that personal touch meant everything.
I’ve traveled extensively, both within India and abroad, and I can honestly say this has been one of the most memorable group trips I’ve ever been on. Beautiful stays, seamless planning, amazing people, breathtaking landscapes, and a team that genuinely cares about creating lifelong memories.
Thank you, WanderOn, and a huge thank you to Nishant, Aman, and tazdeek for making this journey so special. I would happily travel with WanderOn again, and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone planning a trip to Spiti.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your right to Know!
01
Can you camp right at Chandratal Lake?
No. Camping directly beside Chandratal Lake is not permitted because the lakeshore is environmentally sensitive and protected. Seasonal camps are set up a few kilometres away from the lake in the permitted camping area. Travellers usually stay at these camps and then walk or drive up to the designated access point before visiting the lake.
02
How much does a Chandratal camp cost?
The Chandratal camping price generally ranges from around ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 per person for standard organised camps with meals. Better Swiss tents with attached washrooms and improved bedding can cost around ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 or more per tent for two people. Prices vary by camp, travel month, inclusions and occupancy, so always confirm whether the quoted price is per person or per tent.
03
When are the Chandratal camps open?
Most Chandratal camps operate from around mid-June to September, while some remain open until early October if Kunzum Pass and the Batal–Chandratal road stay accessible. Opening and closing dates change every year depending on snowfall, weather and road conditions, so travellers should reconfirm camp operations before departure.
04
Which are the best camps near Chandratal Lake?
Some established names travellers can check include Samsong Chandratal Camps, Jamaica Camp Chandratal, Parasol Camps, Kabila Nature Camp, Sakya Camp Chandratal, Moonlake Camps and Tenzin Camps. Facilities and operators can change between seasons, so compare current prices, meals, washroom type, bedding, power availability and recent reviews rather than choosing only by camp name.
05
Are there hotels near Chandratal Lake?
There are no conventional hotels directly beside Chandratal Lake. The closest accommodation is mainly seasonal tented camps. Travellers who prefer a proper room can stay in Losar, while Kaza has a much wider choice of hotels, guesthouses, cafés and other facilities.
06
Do Chandratal camps have attached washrooms?
Some Swiss tent camps provide attached Western-style washrooms, while budget camps may have shared toilets. Camps such as Samsong and Sakya advertise attached washroom options in certain tent categories. Always confirm the exact tent type before booking because facilities can differ even within the same camp.
07
Do Chandratal camps have electricity and hot water?
Electricity is limited at Chandratal. Camps generally depend on solar power or generators, so charging points and lighting may only work during certain hours. Hot water is often provided on request in buckets rather than through continuous geysers. Do not expect 24-hour electricity, room heaters or hotel-style hot-water supply.
08
Is one night at Chandratal enough?
Yes, one night at Chandratal is enough for most travellers. It gives you time to visit the lake in the evening or morning, experience the night sky and continue towards Losar, Kaza or Manali the next day. Two nights are usually only necessary for photographers, trekkers or travellers keeping an extra day for unpredictable weather.
09
Is Chandratal safe for an overnight stay?
Chandratal can be visited safely during the operating season if the roads are open and travellers are properly acclimatised. However, the lake sits at more than 4,200 metres, so altitude sickness is a genuine concern. Avoid strenuous activity immediately after arrival, stay hydrated and inform your trip leader or camp staff if you develop persistent headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual breathlessness.
10
What should I carry for camping at Chandratal?
Carry thermal innerwear, a warm jacket, woollen cap, gloves, thick socks, sunscreen, sunglasses, personal medicines, a power bank and a reusable water bottle. Temperatures can drop sharply after sunset even in summer. It is also useful to keep some snacks and cash because card payments and mobile connectivity cannot be relied on.
11
Is there mobile network at Chandratal Lake?
Mobile connectivity around Chandratal is extremely limited and may be completely unavailable near the camps and lake. Download maps, booking confirmations and important phone numbers before leaving Kaza, Losar or Manali. Do not depend on mobile internet for navigation or last-minute bookings.
12
Is Batal or Losar better for staying near Chandratal?
Choose Batal if you want the closest basic backup and are comfortable with very simple accommodation. Choose Losar if you prefer a proper guesthouse or homestay with better comfort. Losar works especially well for travellers who want to visit Chandratal during the day but do not want to sleep in a high-altitude tent.
13
How far is Batal from Chandratal?
The Batal to Chandratal road is roughly 14 km, but the journey can take much longer than the distance suggests because the road is narrow, rough and seasonal. Loose rocks, water crossings and broken stretches are common, so travel time should be planned according to road conditions rather than kilometres alone.
14
Should I book Chandratal camps in advance?
Yes, advance Chandratal camps booking is recommended, particularly during July, August and long weekends. More importantly, reconfirm the camp shortly before travel because operators set up seasonally and road conditions can affect opening dates. Ask for the latest tent photographs, meal inclusions, washroom type and cancellation policy before paying.
15
Is Chandratal suitable for families and senior citizens?
It depends more on altitude tolerance than age alone. Chandratal is remote and located above 4,200 metres, with limited medical facilities nearby. Families with young children, senior travellers or anyone with existing health concerns should discuss the altitude with a medical professional and plan sufficient acclimatisation before including an overnight stay.
