Not every day in Meghalaya begins with a hotel breakfast and a sightseeing stop. Some begin with a trek to a hidden waterfall. Others with a boat cutting through the crystal-clear waters of Dawki, a cave waiting to be explored, or an early-morning jungle safari at Kaziranga. This is the side of Meghalaya that most travellers don't plan for, and it is the reason our Meghalaya Adventure Tour Packages exist.
Starting at just ₹21,499, WanderOn’s 15+ Meghalaya trips are designed for travellers who prefer doing over simply seeing. These trips combine the best of Meghalaya tourism with experiences that get you out in the landscape. Think of trekking, caving, camping, boating, cliff jumping, riverside adventures, and countless moments that a quick photo stop can't capture. Over the last few years, we've learned that adventure travel in Meghalaya is rarely about following a fixed itinerary. Water levels change, cave access can vary, weather can reshape plans, and some of the best experiences depend entirely on local conditions.
That's why our Meghalaya adventure tours are built around real on-ground knowledge gathered across thousands of departures, helping us make smarter route decisions and create experiences that work in the destination.
With 7+ years of operations in the region, 2,000+ departures, and 5,000+ travellers hosted, every itinerary reflects lessons learned from actually running trips across Meghalaya season after season.
Every departure is supported by a dedicated trip captain, a network of trusted local operators, and a 24x7 operations team that continuously tracks weather, road conditions, activity feasibility, and traveller movement.
Pick from our Meghalaya tour packages across 6 to 10 days, available as fixed group departures, bike trips, or customised private itineraries. If you want to actually experience Meghalaya rather than just see it, this is where you start. Why Adventure Seekers Choose WanderOn for Meghalaya
When a trail floods near Cherrapunji, a cave entry gets restricted, or a river crossing needs a plan change on the ground, we have already handled a version of that situation before. That experience is what keeps an adventure trip on track when conditions do not cooperate.
- Route knowledge earned on the ground
Our team has run Meghalaya adventure trips through Shillong, Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, Dawki, and the Jaintia Hills repeatedly. We know which trekking trails are walkable after heavy rain, which cave systems require a guide who actually knows the interiors, and which river stretches are safe for kayaking at different times of year.
- Adventure is better shared
WanderOn was built around group travel. Our best Meghalaya adventure tour packages bring together solo travelers and small groups who arrive as strangers and leave with shared memories from the Double Decker Root Bridge trek, Wari Chora canyon hike, Dawki riverbank, and Krem Chympe cave exploration. Meghalaya group tour packages focused on adventure trips make the harder trails more manageable and the campfire conversations worth staying up for. - Transport arranged before you arrive
Shared cabs and local transfers are pre-booked across every leg of the adventure itinerary. You step off your flight and move straight toward the trails. There is no negotiating with drivers at the roadside or spending the first day figuring out how to reach the trailhead.
- Itineraries built around experiences that earn the journey
Each Meghalaya adventure itinerary covers the adventure landmarks worth the effort and the offbeat terrain most tours skip. The living root bridge trek, Umngot River boating, Krem Chympe caves, and Wari Chora canyons all sit inside the same itinerary. - Stays sorted across hotels and camps
Accommodation across every WanderOn Meghalaya adventure departure is pre-selected and verified before the trip runs. Whether the night is at a guesthouse in Shillong or a campsite closer to the trails in Cherrapunji, the stay fits the location and the pace of the itinerary without needing to be figured out on arrival.
- Inner Line Permit paperwork handled for you
Permits and documentation for restricted areas are sorted by our team before your departure date. You do not need to track down forms or chase government offices. We confirm you are cleared and ready before the adventure begins.
- Fixed group departures in June, September, and October
We run scheduled Meghalaya adventure tour packages during the monsoon season and the post-monsoon window, when waterfalls are at full volume, rivers run strong, and the landscape looks nothing like the rest of the year. Groups of 15 to 20 travelers keep costs shared and the experience intimate enough to actually feel like an expedition.
- A Trip Captain with you on every trail
Every departure has a dedicated Trip Captain physically present from day one to the last day. This is not a support number you call when the route gets confusing. It is someone who knows Meghalaya's terrain and handles situations as they come up, whether that is a weather shift, a trail detour, or an unplanned stop worth taking.
- Round-the-clock support from booking to return
Our team is reachable at any hour from the day you book your Meghalaya adventure package. Whether a question comes up the night before departure or something needs sorting mid-trek, someone is available to respond without making you wait until office hours.
- Reviews written by travelers, not marketing teams
Thousands of people have written about their WanderOn adventure experience across TripAdvisor, Google, and Facebook without being asked to. Before you book a Meghalaya adventure tour package with us, spend ten minutes reading what past travelers have said in their own words.
Memories Our Travellers Took Back from Meghalaya
Anant Pandey shares his WanderOn Meghalaya travel package experience:
“My trip to Meghalaya was incredible. What stood out the most was our wonderful trip captain, Nisha - an absolute rockstar. She was a powerhouse of energy while also making everyone feel comfortable and at ease.
The stay arrangements were well taken care of. The level of professionalism throughout the trip was outstanding. From the initial briefing call to clear and consistent communication during the journey, everything was well managed. A special mention again to Nisha, who managed to be incredibly patient with everyone while somehow keeping the entire itinerary perfectly on schedule."
This is what Abhijeet Kumar had to say after travelling with us on a Meghalaya trip:
“I recently traveled to Kaziranga and Meghalaya from Wanderon, and while the landscapes were breathtaking, the real highlight of this trip was the community we built.
Our captain Nisha was the heartbeat of this experience. She didn’t just manage the itinerary to perfection; she curated a vibe where everyone felt seen and included. It’s rare to find a leader who is so professional yet knows exactly how to make a trip fun and cohesive.
Because of her efforts to ensure everyone participated, a group of strangers turned into a genuine little family.”

- Limestone and Cave Exploration: Guided walks into Mawsmai Cave or Arwah Cave near Cherrapunji take you past ancient fossils, stalactites, and stalagmites that have been forming for thousands of years. Both caves are accessible and well-suited for first-time cavers.
- Waterfall Exploration: Cherrapunji sits close to some of the tallest waterfalls in India. Trails in and around the area pass multiple falls, and certain itineraries include a hike down to the base of Nohkalikai or Krang Suri, which looks very different from the viewpoint above.

- Shnongpdeng Water Adventures: Most itineraries set aside a full day and one night at the riverside camps in Shnongpdeng. The Umngot River here is unusually clear, and a full range of activities runs through the day: boating, kayaking, cliff jumping, scuba diving, snorkeling, and river trekking across wet rock formations along the banks.
- Riverside Camping: Spend a night in tents pitched along the Umngot riverbank in Shnongpdeng. Most travelers say waking up to the river is the part they remember longest.
- Kaziranga Jeep Safari: An early morning safari inside Kaziranga National Park covers open floodplain territory home to the one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, and tigers. It's easily one of the most memorable highlights of our Meghalaya wildlife tour packages as well.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Meghalaya Adventure Trip (Verified by WanderOn Trip Captains)
Adventure Safety Tips for Your Meghalaya Trip
- Never enter cave systems without a certified local guide. Water levels can rise without warning and disorientation inside is a real risk
- Fog moves into trekking valleys like Cherrapunji fast. Carry offline maps and hire a trailhead guide if you do not know the route
- Near Shnongpdeng and Dawki, rivers swell quickly during monsoon. Do not swim or camp by a riverbank without checking with locals first
Timing and Logistics
- Start your days by 6 AM. Daylight ends by 4:30 to 5:00 PM in Northeast India and getting caught on mountain roads after dark is a real risk
- Book a flight that lands in Guwahati before 11 AM so you reach Shillong or Cherrapunji before sunset
- Register on the Smartba app before crossing into Meghalaya to comply with the state's mandatory tourist registration rules
Gear to Carry
- Trekking shoes with deep rubber grip, not regular sneakers. The Double Decker Living Root Bridge stairs and canyon rocks need proper soles
- A waterproof dry bag for your phone, cash, and camera. Downpours in Cherrapunji can happen without any warning
- A headlamp rather than a handheld torch. Caving and evening hikes need both hands free
On the Ground
- Carry enough cash before leaving Shillong. Remote villages like Nongriat and Shnongpdeng have poor network coverage and UPI payments fail regularly
- Hire guides directly at trailheads. It keeps you safe, avoids agency markups, and puts money directly into the local community
- At Mawphlang Sacred Grove, follow the local Khasi rule strictly. Take nothing out of the forest, not even a leaf or a stone
October to April is the best window for Meghalaya adventure tours. Trails are dry, caves are accessible, and water sports on the Umngot River run without restriction.
- Water Sports (November to February) The Umngot River in Dawki and Shnongpdeng reaches peak clarity during this period. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking are only reliably available in this window.
- Caving (October to March) Cave systems like Krem Mawmluh and Arwah dry out during these months, making them safe for guided exploration without the risk of flooding inside.
- Trekking (December to March) The driest and sunniest stretch of the year. Trails like Mawryngkhang Bamboo Trek and David Scott Trail are clear of mud and leeches, giving you clean access to the harder routes.
Adventure activities in Meghalaya during the monsoon are possible, but the activity list changes significantly.
What you can do:
- River canyoning, natural pool swimming, and cliff jumping at Mawlyngbna, where operators run trips built around heavy rain conditions
- Living Root Bridge trek to Nongriat and Rainbow Falls, which stay accessible and look their most dramatic during monsoon
- Waterfall chasing at Nohkalikai, Seven Sisters, and Weinia Falls, all of which hit full volume during this season
What gets cancelled:
- Dawki water sports shut down completely as the Umngot River turns fast and muddy
- Wild caving stops as unlit cave systems flood and become unsafe
- Fog near Cherrapunji and Sohra can delay road travel, and landslides occasionally block highway routes
Meghalaya is one of the safer states in India for solo travelers, including solo female travelers. Meghalaya has a low crime rate against tourists and English works across most of the state. The Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities are generally open and easy to approach, which takes a lot of the uncertainty out of solo travel here.
Meghalaya also follows a matrilineal system where women hold a central place in society. That shapes how locals interact with outsiders, and solo female travelers tend to find the social environment here more comfortable than most other destinations in India.
That said, travelling with a group has its own advantages. Our Meghalaya solo trip packages bring together like-minded travelers with a dedicated Trip Captain and 24x7 on-ground support throughout. You get the independence of solo travel without having to sort the logistics yourself or deal with the uncertain bits alone.
