Affordable Meghalaya Tour Packages from Chandigarh with Itinerary

Need an escape from the heat and people of Chandigarh? Meghalaya may be just what you're looking for. This little piece of heaven in the Northeast is incredibly different from any place you've likely ever been.

They refer to it as the "Abode of Clouds", and we mean, honestly, that name fully applies once you are there. The climate is chilly, there are waterfalls on every corner, and you'll have these wild bridges constructed totally out of tree roots. It sounds strange, but they actually hold up great and have been there for centuries.

We initiated these Meghalaya tour Packages From Chandigarh because there were so many inquiries from Chandigarh people for Northeast trips. The problem is, organising a Meghalaya trip independently is not straightforward. The roads are different there; you have to know where the worthwhile destinations are, and reservations in good hotels aren't always easy to come by.

That's where we step in. We take care of all that dull stuff - hotels, transport, permits if required. If you're fed up with the same old Shimla-Manali trip, this is your opportunity to experience something entirely fresh.

8. Local Experiences

WanderOn includes authentic local experiences - trying Khasi cuisine, chatting with village elders, or seeing traditional dance shows - that a normal travel agent might skip. These moments are what make Meghalaya truly unforgettable.

9. Flexibility

Whether you want to go from Chandigarh to Meghalaya flight, train, or even try a scenic road trip, WanderOn can customise your plan. You just tell them your dates, and we handle the rest.

Best Time to Visit Meghalaya

The best time to go on a Meghalaya tour package from Chandigarh is between October and May. The weather is pleasant, and you can enjoy outdoor activities. The monsoon season (June to September) brings heavy rain, which makes the waterfalls spectacular, but roads can get tricky.

How to Reach Meghalaya from Chandigarh

Reaching Meghalaya involves a multi-step journey, as there are no direct modes (flight or rail) from Chandigarh to the state. Most travellers go via Guwahati (Assam) or sometimes via Kolkata. Here are the main routes:

1. Flight + Road/Bus via Guwahati

  • The fastest route is a Chandigarh to Meghalaya flight, flying to Guwahati in about 2–2½ hours. Airlines operating from Chandigarh to Guwahati include IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air.
  • Fares range from approximately ₹6,600 to ₹9,500 one-way if booked in advance.
  • From Guwahati airport, a road journey of about 100 km takes you to Shillong in 2–3 hours by taxi or ferry.
  • Total travel time is roughly 6–7 hours, including transfers.

2. Flight + Road via Kolkata

  • You can also fly from Chandigarh to Kolkata (around 2 hours), then connect to a Chandigarh to Shillong flight from Kolkata (approximately 1½ hours).
  • This option can cost between ₹9,000–₹12,000 one-way, and takes about 7–8 hours in total.

3. Train + Flight/Vehicles via New Delhi and Guwahati

  • Take a Chandigarh to Meghalaya train or a Chandigarh to Shillong train, like the Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express, which takes about 56 hours to reach Assam.
  • From Punjab or Delhi, board a flight to Guwahati, then travel by road to Shillong.
  • This train+flight combination is cost-effective (₹2,500–₹5,000 range), though it extends travel to over one day.

4. Direct Multicity Connecting Flights

  • Search aggregator tools (MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, Yatra, Skyscanner) show no direct flights from Chandigarh to Shillong. Instead, plan for connecting flights (15 hours total flight time) via major airports like Delhi and Kolkata.

5. Road Trip / Self-Drive

  • A bold option is a long drive: Chandigarh to Meghalaya distance by road is nearly 1,960–2,230 km, taking 30–34+ hours via Assam.
  • It offers complete freedom and scenic stops but requires stamina and good planning.

What to See in Meghalaya

Once you reach Shillong, your Meghalaya Packages From Chandigarh will usually take you to famous places in Meghalaya. Here are some highlights you should not miss:

  • Shillong: Known as the Scotland of the East, Shillong has cool weather, beautiful lakes, and lively markets. You can visit Umiam Lake, Ward’s Lake, and Shillong Peak.

  • Mawsynram: Claimed as the wettest place on earth, this village will leave you amazed.

This was my first time traveling to the North-East (Meghalaya + Kaziranga). The accommodations were excellent, with delicious food. It was particularly safe for female solo travelers .The fellow travelers were also fantastic and full of fun. Special thanks to our trip captain Anubhav. His attention to everyone's comfort and ensuring a good time was truly commendable. His wonderful playlist added an extra touch of enjoyment to the journey. To the WanderOn team, I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Consider adding some off-beat places to the itinerary. 2. Improve the Tempo Traveler as it was a long journey and there was not enough leg space. From trekking through lush greenery to encountering majestic wildlife, every moment was filled with wonder and excitement. It was a journey I'll cherish forever. And already, I find myself missing Meghalaya and the friends we made on the trip.

We went on a customised trip to Meghalaya with Wanderon. We don’t know where to begin as this trip has been one of the best decisions we made. Every single place mentioned in the itinerary was mesmerisingly beautiful. We were able to cover all places. The accommodation booked in every place was more than what we expected. Our driver Mr. Biju Das, he is a very friendly, witty person who made these 6 days of our journey joyful. He also took us to places which was not part of the itinerary like Shillong peak, wah-kaba falls etc.,and he made sure we don’t miss out on any places. He would happily say “chaliye aap logon ko meri taraf se kuch dikhata hoon”. He also took us to nice restaurants like sardarji da dhaba( near to airport) flames & flavours( near elephant falls). Lastly I would like to thank Anusha who coordinated this trip with us and made sure everything was going well and there was no hassle or issues. Special thanks to ⁨Divas Agarwal for curating this itinerary as per our needs. Thank you Wanderon for this well coordinated trip. Looking forward for many more trips with you all. 😍🥰
