A Leh Ladakh trip from Delhi covers nearly 1,000 kilometres by road, or 90 minutes by air, and takes you from the plains of the capital to a high-altitude desert that sits above 3,500 metres. The landscape is unlike anything else in India: brown mountains, lakes that shift between blue and green depending on the light, and passes that go above 5,000 metres where the air is thin.

Here is what WanderOn's nine years of operations on the Delhi-Ladakh circuit actually means on ground.
Every departure runs under a dedicated Trip Captain, not a general tour guide. The trip captain is someone who has completed this route multiple times across different seasons. They manage the group's pace through the altitude gain, coordinate with the support vehicle, monitor health across the group, and make real-time decisions when road or weather conditions change.
All road packages carry an oxygen cylinder and a medical kit as part of the standard setup. On the Manali-Leh highway, you gain over 5,000 metres in altitude over two to three days. Acute Mountain Sickness can come on quickly, particularly on the stretch between Baralacha La and Tanglang La. Having oxygen available on the vehicle is not a comfort feature. It is a practical necessity on this route.
WanderOn's 4.9-star rating comes from over 15,000 verified reviews. These are not testimonials collected by the company or edited before publication. They come from travellers who booked through the platform, completed the trip, and left their rating independently.
There are no third-party agents or sub-contractors in the chain. The team that handles your booking is the same team managing your accommodation, transport, and permit documentation. One point of contact means faster resolution when anything needs attention on the ground.
For anyone joining a Ladakh group tour packages from Delhi, group sizes are kept manageable. You travel with a mix of people from different cities across India on a fixed, shared itinerary. The best Ladakh tour package from Delhi depends entirely on your available time and which part of Ladakh you want to cover. WanderOn's range across 5-night to 10-night departures covers most combinations.
Below is a representative Delhi to Ladakh road trip itinerary based on the 10-night/11-day Manali to Srinagar route via Umling La and Nubra Valley.
Day 1: Delhi to Manali
Board the overnight Volvo from Delhi in the evening. The bus covers approximately 550 kilometres to Manali through the night.
Day 2: Manali — Arrive and Rest
Arrive in Manali in the morning. This is the first night above 2,000 metres. Settle in, rest, and spend time at leisure. A slow walk through Old Manali or a visit to Hadimba Temple is the right pace for the evening. No strenuous activity.
Day 3: Manali to Jispa via Atal Tunnel
Drive through the Atal Tunnel at 3,100 metres and continue to Jispa or Keylong. The tunnel bypasses the old Rohtang Pass road and takes about 20 minutes versus the two-hour climb that used to be standard. Jispa sits at 3,200 metres and is a good first night for altitude adjustment. Overnight in Jispa or Keylong.
Day 4: Jispa to Sarchu via Baralacha La
Cross Baralacha La (4,890 metres) and drive to Sarchu (4,200 metres). This is one of the most exposed stretches on the entire route. The landscape flattens into a high-altitude plateau, the road narrows in places, and vehicle density drops significantly beyond the pass. Overnight camp at Sarchu.
Day 5: Sarchu to Leh via Tanglang La
Cross Tanglang La at 5,328 metres and descend into the Indus Valley to reach Leh at 3,500 metres. This is a long driving day but the road condition from Pang onwards is among the best on the route. Overnight in Leh.
Day 6: Leh — Rest and Local Sightseeing
Full rest day in Leh. Visit Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and the main market at a measured pace. Acclimatisation at this stage matters more than sightseeing. The body needs one full day at 3,500 metres before moving to higher areas like Nubra and Pangong Lake. Do not attempt anything physically demanding.
Day 7: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La
Cross Khardung La at 5,359 metres and descend into Nubra Valley at 3,100 metres. The valley is noticeably warmer and greener than the plateau around Leh. The sand dunes at Hunder, where two-humped Bactrian camels are kept, are about 10 kilometres from Diskit. Overnight in Nubra.
Day 8: Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso
Drive from Nubra to Pangong Lake (4,350 metres) via the Shyok River road. The lake is one of the highest saltwater lakes in the world. The lakeside camps are basic but the location is unlike anywhere else in India. Overnight at a camp on the lake shore.
Day 9: Pangong Tso to Hanle via Chushul
Drive via Chushul and the Rezang La war memorial to reach Hanle at 4,500 metres. Hanle is one of the most remote villages accessible by road in Ladakh. The absence of light pollution makes for exceptional stargazing. Overnight in Hanle.
Day 10: Hanle to Umling La and Demchok
Drive to Umling La at 5,799 metres (19,024 feet), the world's highest motorable pass. The road to the summit takes a few hours from Hanle. Descend and continue to Demchok on the banks of the Indus River near the Line of Actual Control. Return to Leh by evening.
Day 11: Leh to Kargil to Srinagar
Drive west from Leh, past Lamayuru monastery, to Kargil at 2,676 metres. Continue through the Zoji La pass and descend to Srinagar. End of the circuit.

If you are wondering how to reach Ladakh from Delhi, then here are the best ways you can choose from for an easy and hassle-free journey:
By Flight: A Ladakh trip from Delhi by flight takes approximately 1.5 hours on a direct service from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh (IXL). IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate this route with daily flights during the peak season.
By Road: There are two ways to reach Ladakh from Delhi by road, via Manali-Leh Highway and via Srinagar-Leh Highway. Both the highways are open and fully accessible from June to October.
Indian nationals need an Inner Line Permit to visit the restricted areas of Ladakh. These areas include Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri. The permit is mandatory regardless of whether you travel by road or fly into Leh.
You can apply online through the Leh district administration portal before departure or obtain it in person at the permit office in Leh on arrival. For all WanderOn group departures, permit documentation is prepared by the operations team. You are required to submit a valid government-issued photo ID during the booking process.
